Cloudy Bay

That all-too familiar feeling, unearthed in yet another quiet moment of solitude.
Dusk was beginning to fall and she hadn’t yet assembled the dry wood for the fire that would keep her company tonight. How she loves watching the flames dance as they lick at the night sky. She told herself that tonight she would finish the last of her dried honey myrtle flower and treat herself to a sweet tea. She’ll set out tomorrow to search for another Melaleuca.
The last fading light of day eventually gives way to night’s dark blanket and through the flames she lets her eyes glaze over to digest the shimmering beauty of the night’s sky. Nestling once more into her blankets she rests her head and wonders who will slip into slumber first – her, or the fire. She’s glad that the afternoon breeze has calmed to a gentle hum that lightly tousles her hair. Eyes closed, she enjoys the sensation of the earth’s moving energies washing over her skin, the cool bite of the evening making her feel alive.
The universe was delivered here for a reason, she thought.

An editorial inspired by first steps in a new land, ‘Cloudy Bay’ was shot on the most easterly point of Australia on the vastly barren beaches surrounding Byron Bay.
