“This was pretty darn good! Myself, I’m usually not all that keen on the larger cuts of meat, but I really enjoyed this. The root beer (I used A&W) not only makes for a very tender cut of pork but it makes for a very flavorful sauce. I purchased the Heinz chili sauce as you suggested and I liked the combination of heat and sweet (cooking the sauce really creates an appetite from the wonderful smell wafting throughout the house). The whole family cleaned up on this dish and I would definitely make this again. I’m submitting a photo in gratitude Diana, and I thank you once again for sharing such a delicious recipe!”
“This came out fantastic…very tender and juicy. The sauce was very tasty. The only thing I did different was adding more hot sauce than the recipe calls for. The heat was a good compliment to the sweetness of the sauce.”
“Nice flavor in the sauce.I cut back on the onions.”
“This was pretty good but I think I may have used the wrong cut of pork (Boneless pork loin). It didn’t come out as tender as I had hoped but it was still very tasty and the entire think got eaten up in less then a day.I used the onions from the crock pot on the sandwiches after I drained them. Was really good and I will make this one again.”
“We liked this recipe very much.I cut the fat off the pork before browning it.Next time I will double the sauce recipe. My husband couldn’t get enough of this sandwich. The pork would not fit in my crockpot so I cooked on low all day on the stove in a covered kettle.”
“I’ve made this several times now for different audiences and it’s been great every time. Thanks for a super recipe!”
“This was wonderful. The whole family enjoyed it, and the sauce was great- a definate keeper. Thanks for posting.”
“I had a 4 pound pork roast that fit well in my 6 quart oval Rival Slow Cooker. The meat came out tender but had difficulty with sauce thickening. After roast was done, I pulled off the fat before shredding the meat. I placed the meat into a bowl and poured the sauce over it. Served it on small Italian hoagie bun. I am sorry to say that my family preferred BBQ pulled pork to this recipe. It wasn’t really anything wrong with the recipe except we prefer a stronger taste than this recipe offered.”
“this was good tasting but for as long as it took I was expecting more.I also had trouble with the sauce. It didn’t thicken at all.”
“There are always left overs when cooking a pork roast.
Mygo to dish for the next day is usually chile verde…but this time I was cooking for a “.not too spicy” audience….so I googled and saw hundreds of root beer pulled pork recipes.
I tried this one and felt the need to tell folks that are skeptical about the flavors…
you are right…be wary.
The flavors do taste odd…sticky and sweet, like drinking from a bottle of soda after it has been sitting outside all day in the sun, flat. The leftovers made me sickish….if fact I should toss the rest right now.”
“Not a bad recipe. My family didn’t really enjoy it however. The meat was very tender but needed more seasoning. Also my sauce never got thick. All in all we preferred BBQ sauce on the meat.”
“Amazing!First time in 13 years that my son didn’t need or want ketchup with his meal! LOL!This is definitely a new family favorite!”
“It’s a Big Fav in my house! Everyone loves this recipe. I don’t usemy any hot sauce but thats just me. The key is slow cooking the rootbeer sauce. if you don’t cook it long enough it’s too strong. My husband go nuts over this stuff. And i use just about any type of pork roast i have and they all have gotten the job done right.”
“Not all that great the sauce was to over powering. The whole house reeked! Sorry it really wasn’t for me.”
“This is definitely not something I would normally try as I am not a fan of soda, but I was so curious to see what it would taste like. I used A&W root beer. It was pretty good, not something I would likely make again but I am glad I tried it! I found that the root beer flavour was quite tame and mild in the actual pork roast, but in the sauce it was more noticeable. My sauce thickened well and I love the sweet and spicy flavour. Thanks for an adventurous recipe!”
“My husband and best friend loved this. The kids weren’t the biggest fans, but they ate it. It was definitely easy, and I didn’t have a problem getting the sauce to reduce. Thanks DiB’s.”
