This trip has made me realize how blessed I am to be able to draw comparisons; the ability to notice change, take a step back and assess how I feel about the old and the new. After all, self-evaluation and reflection is the cornerstone to progressing in all aspects of life.
In my short five days back in NYC, I’ve felt like I have been constantly bouncing between the present “newness” of my life and reflections of my past, comparing the old me with the new me.
You see, the last time I was in New York was just over a year ago.
It was winter in Australia, summer in the city. I bought a one-way ticket to the US and jumped on a plane by myself to do some soul searching. I started off with a month in New York, and at the time I was still coming out of my shell, quite timid and looking for something, but I wasn’t quite sure what. I kicked around the streets, taking it all in. I haven’t spent that much time alone in my adult life and it was an interesting way to challenge myself and experiment with how I would deal with the craziest city in the world, completely on my own.
But a lot can change in a year.
This time round, I jumped on a plane with my business partner-slash-best-friend. It was summer in Australia and winter in New York. This was the result.
