About This Recipe
“My grandpa made this for us when we would stay all night. I watched him from start to finish and this is what I came up with.”

“Very good, but we thought it had too much cinnamon in it. Still really tasty tho!”
“Very yummy! I think this is much better, only using the one whole egg with 3 yolks, because this makes the toast less “eggy” tasting. Was great with country style maple syrup.”
“French toast for me has always been an eyeball-it type recipe, and I always did it that way since I learned the basics when I was younger, so this is the first actual french toast recipe I’ve used before.I made a few changes; sliced french bread toasted, Eggbeaters (3/4 cup to equal 3 eggs), and soy milk for regular milk.I do not tolerate real milk or egg yolks well at all due to IBS.I also added a couple sprinkles of nutmeg, but kept the amounts of the cinnamon and vanilla extract the same.Turned out very nicely, and I liked toasting the bread first.Bread was still soft inside and slightly crispy outside w/o being totally mushy inside. The taste was perfect and my bf also thought this was great.6 1/2 inch thick slices worked well for the amount of egg mixture.I flipped the slices over and over in the mix to get enough of the flavor.I used our griddle at 350 degrees.Thank you Jennifer Lewis & your grandpa for a super simple, tasty french toast recipe.”
“I don’t like my french toast all “tricked up”, this is perfect.”
“This was wonderful! I had never made it with so many yolks before, but it was delicious. I made it with day-old challah bread, then drizzled it with half maple syrup and half fresh orange juice. The orange, vanilla, and cinnamon flavors melded beautifully. Thanks to you and your grandpa!”
“I made this for my children and suffice to say they loved it!I made mine with Sara Lee whole grain bread. With just a sprinkling of powdered sugar it was just sweet enough, with no need to douse it with artificial maple syrups. A healthier alternative to high fructose syrup ladden cereals.”
“I made exactly as directed.Turned out perfect!I never thought of toasting the bread before dunking into the milk/egg mixture.I think that’s the secret! Thanks. “
