Gretchen’s Brussels Sprouts
About This Recipe
“This recipe was made by my sister’s sister-in-law for a dinner at Christmas time several years ago. My sister made it for a celebration and now every Christmas I make the dish because I have the best access to fresh Brussels sprouts. “

“Great way to serve Brussel Sprouts, even to some of my family who don’t like them”
“This was really good. I cut the recipe down, using 3 slices of bacon and about 6 brussels sprouts. I needed to add a couple of TBS of water to “help” them cook a little better because it didn’t quite enough bacon grease. and to soften them a little more. I didn’t have any pine nuts. The nutmeg gave them a nice flavor. I will be making these again. Thanks for sharing your recipe.”
“I made these for Christmas and they were SUPERB!My family said that they just took some to be polite but they ended up really loving them and all asked for the recipe.Truly a winner!”
“I had no bacon, so used spicy pork sausage instead. Still great! I’m not a Sprout fan, but these were yummy!”
“Four ingredients equals fabulous flavor! And this is pretty straightforward to make. I doubled the recipe for a large dinner party. So that did double both prep and cooking time, but well worth it. It’s really an easy recipe. I trimmed the stem ends off and removed the tougher outer leaves. When I cut them in half, I immersed them in an ice bath.Followed the recipe exactly, putting all 4 pounds of sprouts into a large deep skillet over medium-high heat. Served with a few extra grinds of fresh nutmeg, and all eight people at the dinner liked them very much, with one saying ‘I must have this recipe!’ A true keeper. Thanks for posting, Mary!”
“Loved the flavours put together here, but I still love my brussels boiled rather than fried. Will make again but boil the brussels first then add all the rest.Rest of the family loved the combination also.”
“Made for thanksgiving. This is how I normally cook brussel sprouts! Great.”
“I’m giving this a 4-star even though I HATE brussel sprouts. This was the first time I ever cooked them and was assured by the brussel sprout lovers of the family that they were DELISH!If they were EVER going to be any good to me, it would have been in this dish. (:The bacon and pine nuts were excellent. (;”
“I sliced the sprouts, used turkey bacon with a little real bacon grease, had sunflower nuts on hand so I used them, and totaly spaced the nutmeg, and my husband (picky) had a third helping!I liked it because the sprouts were still crisp and flavorful- not sodden.”
“No doubt Gretchen is talented. Very tasty.”
“Delicious way to enjoy Brussels sprouts.I highly recommend the nutmeg. You really don’t need much bacon grease (and therefore bacon) to accomplish the sauteing.Wonderful recipe.”
“Yum!The bacon really adds to the flavor of the brussel sprouts. We love brussel sprouts, but usually roast or steam them. This method has the best flavor of all.Of course, anything with bacon usually does.LOL”
“OUTSTANDING!… and I tried it without the pinenuts because we are on a low carb diet.My family didn’t think they liked brussel sprouts untill they tried this! Easy too…”
“Excellent.I plan to try this. What might you substitute, if pine nuts are out of season?”
