  • “Mirj — great idea to post this “recipe”. It works very well, I’ve used this combination many times. Here’s another one for you: I had already tried this remedy on a REALLY bad grease clog, to no avail. My grandpa just happened to call at that time, and I — well, I whined to him. He told me what he used to do when he was the manager/fix-it guy for a trailer park: get out your handheld blow-dryer. Make sure there is no water on the floor where you’re standing so you won’t electrocute yourself, then open up the access to the drain pipe – that little trap thingy. Aim the hot air right on that, and it will melt the grease and let everything slide on through. My Grandpa Rocks!”

  • “This really did work! It foamed a lot at first. I think the trick was to keep doing it. After trying this, I looked it up, and this is also recommended as periodic maintenence procedure. Just flush your drains with vinegar and baking soda every so often, like every month or so, and it keep them clear and fresh – so you don’t get a clog problem!”

  • “This also works great as an oven cleaner.”

  • “This needs to be rated. We need to get more people to do this. I know it works I do it at least once a month or more. I also put it in the dishwasher. Thank You”

  • “I have tried this recipe. I warmed the vinegar first then poured it into the drain over the baking soda. It is fantastic! Mabel Sullivan”

  • “And only 17 calories according to the elves. It helps keep the bad drain smell from happening if you use it every month.”

  • “Okay, I finally used this Wednesday before my BF’s family got here, and it was REALLY great! Feels nice, too, to not be pouring poison in the sink where I handle food :-)”

  • “It fizzed, it bubbled, it worked!! What more can I say?”

  • “This is fantastic.Every 3 months, when I replace the baking soda in my fridge and freezer, I use it to do this. Thanks for such a great idea!”

  • “Mirj, this really works. It is a great and inexpensive option.I try to use it once a month. It is great for my kids drain especially since I have 2 girls with long hair!”

  • “It fizzed, it bubbled, it worked like magic in a cup! Wow, Mirj Momma, you are amazing! Thanks to you, now, I have a homemade solution to the problem of my bathroom drain that gets filled with my falling hair when I shampoo. No more wasting Rials on drain cleaners(unfortunately, I bought one on the 14th) that use chemicals; this is cheaper, natural and available right in the house! I followed Donna M’s review – I did this then waited for 10 minutes and then poured a pan of boiling water over this. The drain cleared within seconds! My dad will be really glad with this recipe of yours :)Thanks SO MUCH, {{{{{Hugs to you}}}}}}}}, for sharing this.”

  • “You saved me a $150.00 service call. My DH helped me prepare dinner by peeling the skins on some boiled potatoes. He tried to use the garbage disposal to grind up the peelings, resulting in a clog on Thanksgiving Eve. We used a snake, a plunger…nothing worked. I called the plumber and was prepared to pay up. Then I recalled your recipe. Clogged no more = no service call = my money. I now use this weekly in all the drains and DH is no longer allowed to peel potatoes in our house. Thank you! “

  • “This really does work. My kitchen sink drain suddenly decided to run very slow and was backing up from the second drain (double sink). After I did this, I waited about 5 minutes and followed up with a pan of boiling water. In about 10 seconds the drain cleared. Thanks Mirjam!”

  • “This worked great!I had a stubborn clog in my shower – I was literally standing in ankle deep water when I showered.i tried your method, rather than calling a plumber and it worked beutifully.I have no more clog and no nasty chemical residues or expensive plumbing bills. Thank you!”

  • “well done, MIRJIAM, for posting this. I can confirm that it is an absolute cracker for clearing hard-to-shift gunk out of drains, after spending a small fortune on so-called “Drain unblockers” to no avail. I found this tip in an old book and use it regularly – gives me peace of mind.Any more supertips like this out there, anyone?Barellin.”

  • “Wonderful! My bathroom sink wasn’t draining and I was out of drain cleaner when I remembered people talking about this.Guess I’ve bought my last Liquid Plummer. This is great, no poisons and it’s cheap. We’ve had so much trouble with that drain that I guess I will have to start buying a box of baking soda for the bathroom now and just run some down during my regular cleaning. Thanks Mirj!”

  • “so simple and so effective!my drain was so slow before using this and now it drains with such force that my boys are afraid of it! i have to take them out of the tub before i drain it or they scream in terror. it sounds like the drain is going to suck them up!”

  • “I have never been so excited about cleaning drains before!!Simple and poisionless(is that a word?)and its cheap!!”

  • “I love it and it’s not poision. I was so delighted to try it tonite and it relly works. Thanks. Jeanne”
