How To Extend Your Summer Look In The Fall

How To Extend Your Summer Look In The Fall

This past weekend was beautiful in Philly. 80+ degrees, and not a cloud in the sky.

It’s a treat to have weather like that, and it makes you think for a second that summer isn’t actually over. In reality though, it’s October. It’s sad to think that that could have been the last of our warm weather, and losing that sun-kissed summer glow is something that I dread every year. The bronzed glow fades, golden strands of hair hibernate for the season, and our light and airy wardrobes get pushed aside. Just thinking about that makes me sad. If I could be a beach baby all year round, I would love nothing more. That’s hard to make happen when you live in the north, so prolonging my summer look into the fall is something I try and keep up with. Here’s a few things that I’ve found to help keep me physically and mentally in the summer state of mind.

Lighten Your Hair

Going dark in the colder months has never been my cup of tea. I try to prolong my summer sun highlights as long as possible. Try using a natural lightening spray, or one of these other 3 ways to keep things on the lighter side.

Wear White

Who made that silly rule against wearing white after Labor Day? It may be time to store away some of those summer tanks and shorts, but by all means, lock a few staple whites down in your closet. Denim, oxford shirts, and sweaters in snowy hues are all things we can get away with wearing this time of year, and it will brighten up your look as if it was high summer.

Self Tan

Losing my sun-kissed glow is the one thing I hate most during the fall transition. I’ve never been one to use self tanner before, but this is the season to make that change. There are some great products out there that can help keep the bronze around longer, and in a natural looking way. It might not be a real suntan, but it’ll be one that my skin thanks me for later!

 Treat Yourself To A Pedicure

We bare our toes all summer long in sandals, which means their upkeep is more of a priority. When boot weather comes around, they become something we forget about. Wrapped up in socks and hidden from view… where’s the love?! It’s important to stay warm, but it’s also refreshing to come home after a long day, kick off the shoes, and have a nice pedicure as you would in the summer time. Treat yourself to a pedicure this fall. It’ll remind you of barefoot walks along the shore.

Use Bronzer and Blush

In addition to using tinted moisturizer, I always have a good blush and bronzer in my makeup bag to add extra color to my face. I’ll use a little bit of both–the mix of pink and tan really seems to brighten up my face if I’m looking washed out. Try making your own blush and bronzer this fall!

Get Outside

Even though it might be chilly, the sun still likes to makes an appearance. It might not live up to it’s powerful force in the summertime, but it’s there and shinning, and a little vitamin D is good for your mental well-being. One of my favorite things to do is grab a bunch of blankets, and head to a park or make the drive to the shore. You’ll notice the change in air…it’s lighter…crisp. It almost seems easier to be outside this time of year, and it’s nice to still be able to feel the rays of sun on your skin.

How are you keeping summer around this fall?
