Kitty Litter Cake

    • Ingredients

  • 1 (18ounce) boxesspice cake mix or 1 (18ounce) boxes German chocolate cake mix
  • 3eggs( or as called for by your cake mix)
  • 1/3 cupoil( or as called for by your cake mix)
  • 1 1/3 cupswater( or as called for by your cake mix)
  • 1 (18ounce) boxes white cake mix
  • 3eggs( or as called for by your cake mix)
  • 1/3 cupoil( or as called for by your cake mix)
  • 1 1/3 cupswater( or as called for by your cake mix)
  • 1 (6ounce) boxes vanilla instant pudding mix
  • 1 (18ounce) packages vanilla sandwich cookies
  • green food coloring
  • 12smallTootsie Rolls
  • 1new kitty litter box
  • 1new kitty litter box
  • 1Pooper Scooper

    • Directions

  • Prepare cake mixes and bake according to box directions (any size pan). Preparepudding, chill until ready to assemble. Crumble sandwich cookies in smallbatches in food processor, scraping often.
  • Set aside all but 1/4 cup.
  • To the1/4 cup of crumbs, add a few drops of green food coloring and mix using fork orshake in a jar.
  • When cakes are cooled to room temp, crumble into a large bowl.
  • Toss with half the remaining cookie crumbs and chilled pudding.
  • You probablywon’t need all the pudding, mix the cake and “feel” it, you don’t want it soggy,just moist; gently combine. Line litter box.
  • Put mixture into box.
  • Put 3unwrapped tootsie rolls in microwave safe dish and heat until softened.
  • Shapeends so they are no longer blunt, curving slightly.
  • Repeat with 3 more tootsierolls and bury in cake mixture. Sprinkle the other half of cookie crumbs overtop.
  • Scatter green crumbles lightly over top (chlorophyll in cat litter). Heat3 tootsie rolls in microwave until almost melted.
  • Scrape them on top of thecake and sprinkle with cookie crumbs.
  • Spread remaining tootsie rolls over top;take one and heat until pliable, hang over side of litter box, sprinkle withcookie crumbs.

  • “I made this cake years ago when I was a volunter for our local animal shelter. We had a feline spay/neuter day where we “fixed” 100 cats at a reduced charge. All of the volunters brought in food for the day long event. I brought this cake and people were very reluctant to try it because it looked like the real deal. I guess the sight of the cake along with the smells created by 100 cats awaiting for their surgery was too realistic. Some people tried it (includin myself) and it was tasty.   • “I wouldn’t use a kitty litter pan or litter scoop unless I knew the plastic they were made from was safe to use around food. For sure check the plastic number molded into them and make sure they are BPH free. They aren’t intended to be used around food so I’m guessing no special precaustuions are taken during their manufacturer.”
