  • “This is a great recipe! I, too, added a pinch of salt. I also added a hint of Cinnamon on top of the Allspice. It turned out great! Next time I will make a bigger batch.”

  • “My husband has been complaining that he hasn’t had Mandazi in 16 years, since he first came to the United States.I found this recipe and decided to give it a try. His boyish giggles as I brought him the first batch, and his nodding as he took his first warm bites told me all I needed to know. This, my friends is authentic Kenyan Mandazi…Keyan tested, and Kenyan approved!”

  • “I love Mandazis, especially the Mahamri variety but I’ve never had luck with them as I tend to be a serial blunderer when it comes to cooking Kenyan foods. Ironic that I could whip up a delicious Malaysian Nasi Goreng or an Indian Ladoo pastry but I suck when it comes to my own country’s cuisine. Haha.I’ll try this particular one next week as the Ramadhan has already started. All please keep your fingers crossed for me and hope that I don’t burn down my college hostel.”

  • “Hmmm this brings back memories growing up in Kenya…Kids can have great fun with you rolling out the dough and cutting it out.You could substitute cinnamon or nutmeg for the allspice if you wish.I would also add a couple more spoons of sugar and a tiny pinch of salt.Everywhere you go in Kenya and the rest of East Africa, you will find mandazi of all sizes in homes, cafes, roadside kiosks- its a great snack to munch to have with some chai. Thanks for the recipe, I doubled it and made lots so I can have enough for the week.”
