Morning Maple Muffins

  • Ingredients

  • 2cupsall-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cupbrown sugar, packed
  • 2teaspoonsbaking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoonsalt
  • 3/4 cupmilk
  • 1/2 cup butter or 1/2 cupmargarine, melted
  • 1/2 cupmaple syrup
  • 1/4 cupsour cream
  • 1egg
  • 1/2 teaspoonvanilla extract
  • Topping:

  • 3tablespoonsall-purpose flour
  • 3tablespoonssugar
  • 2tablespoonsnuts, chopped
  • 1/2 teaspooncinnamon, ground
  • 2tablespoons butter or 2tablespoonsmargarine, cold
  • Directions

  • In a large bowl, combine the flour, brown sugar, baking powder and salt. In another bowl, combine the milk, butter, syrup, sour cream, egg and vanilla.
  • Stir into the dry ingredients just until moistened.
  • Fill greased or paper-lined muffin cups two-thirds full.
  • For topping, combine the flour, sugar, nuts and cinnamon; cut in butter until crumbly.
  • Sprinkle over batter.
  • Bake at 400 F for 16-20 minutes or until muffins test done. Cool for 5 minutes before removing from pans to wire racks.
