Our Vintage Buyer Shares Her Top 5 Favorite Pieces

I’ve had a love for vintage ever since my mother fist allowed me to dig through boxes of her old clothes all those years ago. The mystery of unearthing her rainbow stitched bell bottoms, cotton floral mini dresses — clothes that she had once loved and clothes that would soon become the foundation for my personal aesthetic.

There’s a magic that accompanies vintage clothing, and that same magic infuses the collections that our vintage buyer, Ali, painstakingly assembles. Her desk is one that I’ve become fond of passing by, if only to steal a glance or two at the treasures that she surrounds herself with. So it’s only natural that Ali should have a lot to say about the items that she personally sources for each collection.

“Hands-down, my favorite piece from the World Traveler collection is the Vintage US Marine Core Poncho. It’s absolutely to die for and I can’t believe it hasn’t sold yet, I’m tempted to buy it myself! It is completely one of a kind, hand-sewn by a friend who lives in Bucks County from two ’40s-era military jackets. It doesn’t get any cooler — killer patches, amazing buttons.”

“Harness boots like these Vintage Engineer Boots are becoming harder and harder to find. They’re just a no brainer, they’re seasonless, meaning they’ll go with everything in your closet — dresses, skirts, they’d look great styled with cut-offs and the poncho above!”

“This came from someone’s personal archives, and I had to practically beg them for it. Dresses like the Vintage Denim Patchwork Dress are just impossible to find these days, they’re a rarity. It’s hand-sewn, and the center panel is all hand-embroidered. It would look so cute with a pair of clogs or just go for it and wear jeans underneath.”

“I love this Vintage Chain Bracelet, it’s an early piece — most likely from the ’40s — and the front panel is just gorgeous. Pieces like this make me feel powerful, another that I was on the verge of almost keeping for myself. The design is striking and will definitely get noticed, but the piece itself is so lightweight.”

“I’m really digging ponchos for fall and this handmade Vintage Embroidered Indigo Poncho is just so cool. The striations — variations in color — is how you can tell it’s real indigo. It’s got this great pocket on the front and amazing embroidery. Another piece that is just so versatile.”
