Ovar was founded in 1251! Surrounded by lagoons and saltpans, Ovar is easily located between the northern cities of Porto and Aveiro.
It is an uncommon town where some of the women still wear black pork-pie hats and walk the streets barefoot. A number of the regional inhabitants are descendants of Phoenician sailors who settled around these shores due to the fact that they were drawn in by the purity of the sky and the exceptional fishing to be had.
