I typically find inspiration from a traditional or historical account of the raven. Very first I choose my title. Having a title assists me with the image and state of mind of the piece. Humor is typically essential but I also choose titles that force the viewer to think more about the imagery.

Then I invest hours doing preliminary sketches, followed by a series of drawings utilizing pencil, traditional gouache (opaque watercolor), ink and charcoal.
