Styling 101: Set Dressing

Styling 101: Set Dressing

Bread and butter, peanut butter and jelly, peas in a pod… some things are just better together, including one of our new favorite trends – sets.

Matching tops and bottoms remind me a little bit of what my mom used to dress me in when I was a kid – but on a completely new (and mature/cool/ trendy/ tasteful etc.) level. From print on print to solid on solid, we have a handful of awesome sets online right now that open up so many new doors in the styling world. Worn together…or separate…the number of ways to wear sets and incorporate them into your wardrobe is infinite. Not to mention, getting ready in the morning just got a whole lot easier. I love how this trend is making a comeback, and it’s one that I’m super excited about for the coming season.

How cute is the floral on floral set? I love the flowy shape of both the top and shorts. Pairing it with some birks, socks, and a baseball cap keeps it cozy and casual. (This might be my new casual Sunday uniform.)

Throw on a slouchy sweater with the shorts, or pair the top with some leather skinnies and boots before you hit the town.

I love how two different looks are easily achievable with set dressing. The Watch this Space Set is very candy…the lace, ruffles, and light blue color mix for a feminine feel. Worn with some heels and a leather jacket, this set is perfect for a dressed up night look. Take the skirt away and wear the cropped top with some boyfriend jeans and sneakers to make it more boy.

The Uptown Wrap Set is simple and sexy. At first glance you may think it’s a dress before the cropped tank reveals a bit of skin. I think this one makes more of a statement when both the top and skirt are worn together. To dress it down, try layering with a flannel and throwing on a beanie!
