This piece was fired in my raku kiln. I removed the pot from the kiln when it reached about 1800 degrees Fahrenheit and positioned it in a container including combustible materials, in this case wood shavings and shredded news paper then sealed the container loosely so that the carbon from the smoke would be drawn into the unglazed surfaces of the clay body. The black you see on this pot is from the smoke that was drawn into the clay.
This planter was made from recycled clay. As it fired the clay within the pot diminished at various rates and the pot is out of round. It sits flat however the pot itself while it entered into the kiln round came out out of round. It has its appeal in its flaw. If you welcome that sort of thing.
The pot is approximately 6 -6 6 1/2 inches in diameter and about 3 inches in height. The drainage hole is 1/2 inch in diameter.
Keep in mind that raku pottery is fragile by nature and this pot will certainly not be as resilient and long lived as a stoneware it could be more along the lines of terra cotta.
