  • Reviews

  • “This recipe is terrific! We loved the taste and texture and it’s a great recipe to let kids help out.I rolled some of the cookies in sugar with cinnamon and they were even better, but we really like cinnamon. Thanks for a great recipe!”

  • “I so wanted these to be as wonderful as others thought.I followed the recipe exactly and still they had a strange (to me) texture, too crumbly I guess.I thought I might have cooked them too long so next tray I cooked just 10 minutes, still too crumbly for me.sorry I wish I could like them .”

  • “I was sorta dissapointed in the recipe. The oil and butter didn’t blend. I ended up with a VERY soft, sticky, and dull colored dough. And I froze it for 30 minutes and chilled it 30 minutes the end product was extremely delicate and hard to decorate but the taste was not how a REAL sugar cookie is supposed to be.”

  • “Like the last reviewer, I’ve also been making these for years, although I’ve known them as Amish Sugar Cookies. They definitely are the best, and up there in my few all-time favorite cookie recipes.”

  • “Just baked these cookies. I hate baking cookies because they never come out right. These cookies came out wonderful. They are easy to make and tasty to eat. You can keep them plain or decorate. Will definately make cookies now.”

  • “I can’t believe it!!I’ve had this recipe since I was 10 – that’s 35 years ago!!It was given to me by my teacher in Illinois. It’s exactly the same.. this truly is the worlds best sugar cookie.. the only way to make them any better is to use the best ingredients…. either way these cookies are awesome!!Light and tasty – moist – the taste of Christmas!”

  • “This is my great grandmother’s exact sugar cookie recipe! They were always fabulous when she made them, and I’m getting ready to try them myself as the holidays approach. As I said, I haven’t tried the recipe myself, but her recommendations were 12 minutes for baking and to pull them out before they browned so that they were nice and soft.”

  • “The flavor of the cookie was great, but didn’t like the texture. I prefer a softer dense chewy cookie. I will not sift the flour next time. The dough was awesome though. I ate most of it”

  • “Very easy quick cookie to make.Texture was great, I found them a little plain. Will try with cinnamon sugar next time.”

  • “I sent some of these to my boyfriend when we first started dating. He loved them so much, and even sent me flowers to say thank you! Now THAT’S an award-winning cookie. :)”

  • “I thought this was excellent dough for basic sugar cookies. Nice buttery flavor and slightly crispy texture. Lemon, vanilla or cinnamon etc. can be added as wished.I used 1/3 of this dough as base for the Taffy Apple Pizza recipe that was calling for sugar cookie dough bottom. Worked wonderfully. The rest of the dough I made into cookies.”

  • “My Grandchilden just loved these cookies. When they left our house the cookie jar was empty.Did add a little more lemon juice to give it a more lemon taste. Be making more during Christmas trying the cookie maker let you know how they turned out.”

  • “This is a 4 star cookie. I liked the texture — crisp and puffy, but still tender. The flavor was pretty basic vanilla.A touch of lemon zest or a bit of almond extract might be a good addition to the next batch. The best sugar cookie I’ve ever tasted came from a store called Central Market in Austin, Texas.I’m still trying to find a recipe that matches the taste of that cookie, which to me is closer to being the world’s best. But this is still a really good cookie — better than most.”
