Jules in Flats – Plaid Knit Sheath Dress with Long Duster Cardigan (Business Casual Winter Workwear on a Budget) Hi everyone! How are you? Vancouver was hit with a snow storm this week, so things got a little crazy! Since historically we have a warmer climate, the city has never been fully prepared for when we get snow. There just aren’t enough snow plows for the whole city, and they always seem to be deployed half a day late. Our public transit isn’t properly equipped for snow, either, so the buses are always backed up, late, and / or stuck because they can’t get up hills. Our Sky Train (comparable to a subway system, but the majority is above ground) system is OK in the snow, but if it gets too icy it’s out of commission. Needless to say, this week a bit of a disaster for getting around! Luckily I live close to work, the gym, and a small grocery store, so I was OK! This is a thick, chunky knit sweater from H&M a couple of years ago. I love it! I don’t know why I decided to wear my black jeans instead of dress pants, but I know I wanted to wear boots since it was cold & snowy and I wanted to keep my feet warm! Sweater by H&M (old, similar) High Rise Rocket Jeans by Citizens of Humanity Faux Suede Ankle Boots by Old Navy (old, similar) Double Disc Pendant Necklace by ? (old, similar) Gold Hoops Earrings by J.Crew Factory Again, it was cold so I wanted to wear blanket to work and this duster cardigan is pretty much that! LOL Duster Cardigan by Old Navy (old, similar) Plaid Shift Dress by Banana Republic Factory (similar) Tights by J.Crew Zoe Suede D’Orsay Flats by J.Crew Factory Tassel Necklace by J.Crew Factory (old, similar) I haven’t worn this sweater yet this season! It’s from J.Crew Factory a year or two ago and while ruffle sleeves aren’t trendy anymore, I still like it. I haven’t worn these patent oxfords in awhile either, so they were a nice change-up, too. Ruffle Sleeve Sweater by J.Crew Factory (old, similar) Plaid Mid-Rise Pixie Ankle Pants by Old Navy Gemelli Patent Oxfords by Aldo Double Hoop Earrings by Joe Fresh (similar) Adorned Necklace by Melanie Auld (JHxMA collection, Christmas gift from T!) Pearl Hair Pins from Amazon This outfit is a little shapeless and you know what? I’m okay with that! Not everything has to accentuate the narrowest part of your body or make your legs look longer, boobs bigger, hips smaller or whatever whatever! Sometimes just wearing two things with polka dots is enough. Sweater by Old Navy (old, similar) Polka Dot Blouse by Forever 21 (old, similar) Mini Skirt by H&M Tights by J.Crew Polka Dot Mesh Flats by J.Crew Factory (sold out, similar) Today we are going to pick out tile for our bathroom reno! We haven’t signed the contract yet, but it’s going to happen, so we need to start making decisions in case things need to be ordered in, etc. We are going with a larger (12 x 24″) light grey tile for the floor, and a marble-like white tile with grey veining for the shower walls, which will probably be in a large tile size as well – we have to see what’s out there! I’ve been saving lots of bathroom inspo on my Pinterest board if you’re interested in following along over there! Last weekend we went to the Kohler store to look at fixtures and did find a line that we liked, but I want to see if I can find similar items that are less expensive, so that is on my to-do list this weekend! Here’s what else we’ve been up to! Watching: Last weekend we went and saw 1917 and wow, it’s good. Very powerful. Watch it in the theatre if you can. I think we have The Farewell downloaded so we may watch that this weekend, and I think Uncut Gems is going to be out soon too – a colleague of mine is going to see it this weekend but said it was coming for download on Sunday. Don’t F*ck with Cats: Hunting an Internet Killer. We watched the first episode and it is very disturbing. I couldn’t go to bed right after watching it so I made T put on Jimmy Fallon to try and forget about it before I went to bed. I don’t need to be having nightmares about that shit! Reading: Nothing, sadly! I finished Where the Crawdads Sing over the holiday break (so good, highly recommend!) and borrowed When God Was a Rabbit from my mum, but I haven’t really gotten into it yet. Other than that I’ve just been reading my usual blogs! Buying: J.Crew Tights. So T had to return a couple of things downtown last weekend before we went to the theatre to see 1917. We didn’t have a ton of time, so I wasn’t planning on trying anything on (nor was I in the mood to), but I’ve been thinking about trying some new tights, and saw these ones at J.Crew. As you can see in my outfits above, I wore them this week and I really like them! They are opaque, as advertised; they have a tag in the back so you can see if you are wearing them the right way (lol); and I made sure to NOT get the “control top” version. That’s my problem with the other tights I have, the control top was too aggressive, so it wasn’t comfortable. Ole Henricksen Banana Bright Eye Cream. Okay so technically I didn’t buy this, but I got a sample from Sephora. If you read my blog post last week, you know I was going to try and buy this mini set. Well, they didn’t have it in stock and I wasn’t about to pay full price for the eye cream, so the SA gave me a sample which I’ve been trying out this week. TBH, it doesn’t really seem to be doing anything. I’ll keep using it until the sample is gone, but I don’t see myself buying it after that, especially considering the price! Eating: Leftover lasagna. Tony made lasagna last Friday and we’ve been eating it ever since! The first night I had some stomach pains, I think because there was so much cheese, but I adjusted after that! #the stew. Alison Roman shows you how to make it on YouTube, and you can get the recipe here, which is what I did. I made it one night for dinner and then took it work for lunch for the rest of the week. It’s more like soup IMO but it was good, and easy! Chicken Schnitzel + Broccolini. This is one of our easy go-to dinners that I can grab from the small specialty grocery store by our house on my way home from work / the gym. The schnitzel is pre-made but cold (in the deli section), so we just reheat it in a frying pan and then add whatever veggie we want on the side. I like getting broccolini because it comes in a nice pre-portioned package, but sometimes we grab a premade salad, some roasted potatoes, regular broccoli, or kale. Burgers. This burger place is right by our house so we go there a lot! My go-to ATM is The Big Dipper, but I don’t even usually use the dip. Unless I’m super hungry, half a burger plus a bit of salad is usually satisfying, and then I eat the other half the next day for lunch or dinner! Working Out: Monday and Wednesday I did a group fitness strength/weights class called BodyPump. Tuesday I did intervals on the treadmill followed by a short ab workout. I’ve been testing out the MoveWith App for a couple of weeks and am liking it so far! If you’ve heard or used Aaptiv, it’s the same concept, but free! I skipped yoga last night because I was worried about driving in the snow, but I hope to go next week! What have you all been up to? LMK in the comments below! Thank you all so much for visiting! xo JULES
