Turkey? What Turkey?
Turkey Disguise Template This is my all-time favorite part of the year: The Holidays! Last year, we had Thanksgiving with my in-laws. Each family was assigned to bring some kind of turkey to display. We decided to “hide” our turkeys to save them from the feast! Check out these creative turkeys on display: A dessert stand———————————-A veggie tray A pinecone turkey with thankful feathers———a gratitude turkey A pom-pom turkey with fabric feathers————a wide-eyed button turkey Dessert turkeys—————————————— A Beaded turkey We had SO much fun making ours! I made a pirate with feathers disguised as sails. The Stud made his into a grandma (complete with gold sandals). The Oldest made a Chinese man (love his shoes!). The Middle made his into Santa with toy-sack-feathers. The Youngest disguised his a Secret Agent (like Perry the Platypus). Your family can play too! {PRINT IT HERE} How will you hide your turkey?

It’s Turkey Time! *FREEBIE*
It’s Turkey Time! *FREEBIE* – I am NOT a turkey project with a parent letter and template included! Fun!!! Time sure has been flying by this year! I can’t believe it’s almost Thanksgiving already. Each year my teamies and I send home this awesome project. The kids are told to disguise their turkeys so they won’t be eaten for Thanksgiving. I’m always amazed at what the kids come up with. This is the pattern we give them. The turkey is from Lita Lita. Here are a few from this year. We have the kids include speech bubbles with their turkeys. It’s a short piece of writing, but it is great for discussing writing from 1st person point-of-view and persuasive techniques. You can get your own copy of this PowerPoint file here. I’ve included an editable parent letter that you can customize to your liking. Have a great week!

Turkeys in Disguise

Outside the Box: Turkeys in Disguise I found this clipart here Edit: I made two outfits for the above turkey after posting this. I have been searching and searching for years for a CUTE turkey. Today I found not one, but two that I like. Thanks to a blog I follow https://mrsjumpsclass.blogspot.com/ she posted the idea of reading the book “Turkey Trouble” by Wendi Silvano. It is about a turkey who disguises itself to hide from the farmer. She follows up the lesson with an art and writing activity involving making turkeys in disguises. I am reading this book to the entire first grade the day before Thanksgiving. I have made up sample costumes for the kids to use if they want. Below is the other turkey I like which was part of a free activity Deanna Jump was giving away on her teacher store. I altered his feet to make them more “shoe” accessible. I removed the feathers from both turkeys to make it easier to dress them. The illustrator in the book, Lee Harper, gave his turkey feathered “hands” so that he could hold things. I will probably alter the second turkey the same way. But…I had a LOT of fun today making costumes for the second turkey. Below are some of them. For 11″ x 17″ Coloring Page Costumes go HERE, These can be printed on 8.5″ x 11″ paper to fit the turkey printed to the same size. Go to my post for the larger coloring page costumes. If you are a teacher and have a great way to use these, please let me know. It would be fun to load them onto the Smartboard and slide the outfits over the turkey. You could print them out in black and white and let K-1 kids color, cut, and paste them onto the turkeys. I am going to print my turkeys out on 11″ x 17″ paper with clothes the same size. This way there is room on the back to put a short story they write about the disguise. The hats and crowns have to be cut out separately. Due to the length of the turkeys neck, they didn’t fit on the page with the turkey. Here are the two turkeys in a couple of their outfits.
