I enjoy these hooks! These are Tulip Brand mini steel crochet hooks in 1mm size (size 6), made in Japan. * Please keep in mind, the hooks I currently have in stock are classic and have METAL caps instead of the clear plastic ones imagined. Likewise, the writing on the hooks is different, however they are still original Tulip Brand! *. Cost is PER HOOK (and does not consist of green box).
These teeny small crochet hooks are excellent for beginning natural dreads (backcomb and crochet method), permanently crocheting in extensions, and fixing and preserving existing natural dreadlocks, or for those of you who want to crochet lace doilies! (Please keep in mind, I typically advise 1mm or smaller sizes for working on fears) – I have other sizes readily available in economy crochet hooks- https://www.etsy.com/listing/171824007
To crochet a dreadlock, push the hook through the dread, get a couple of hairs of loose hair and pull through the dreadlock. If you have trouble grabbing the hairs, some people want to cover the loose hairs around the hook tightly and pull through. Repeat all the method around and through the dread till all loose hair is pulled inside the fear and it feels nice and tight. The very same method can be used to permanently crochet an extension into your natural dreadlock to extend the length. Just lay the 2 side by side, overlapping the tapered end of the fear and the tapered or loose top of the extension a couple of inches, and pull the loose hairs through to lock the two pieces together. Repeat all around till tight and tidy!
There are numerous tutorials showing how to crochet dreads on YouTube (I know a lot of you have been asking for me to do a video tutorial on this and I assure I will sooner or later when I get a video camera that works!)
** Disclaimer ** Please note, these hooks are extremely sharp (especially the thinner size ones), so please be extremely mindful of your fingers and skin while using them as you can easily injure yourself (I do it all the time … ouch!). For those of you who are new to crocheting (and crocheting veterans!), Always start gradually and carefully until you get the hang of it and constantly pay attention as not to stab yourself!: D
