Birds Of A Feather: Happy National Friendship Day!
In honor of National Friendship Day, two of the creative minds behind FP reflect on their long lasting bond and share what being a ‘friend’ is all about.
Do you remember the first time you and your best friend met? Where were you? Why did you and this person cross paths? How did you both form the bond that you have today?
As we honor National Friendship Day, now is the time to reach out to those that have stuck by you through thick and thin, good times and bad. Founded by Hallmark in 1919, today was meant to be celebrated by sending a card to your best friend. As I thought about this, two people that I look up to came to mind. In my first days at Free People, I would watch them walk through the office together, always leaving a trail of good vibes. Carrie, our Creative Community Designer, and Doub, our Creative Director, have been knee deep in Free People since the beginning of the brand’s time. It’s so fun to hear them talk about the days when it was just the two of them producing our catalogs, back then being referred to as “image books”. Both ladies are such inspirations, and compliment each other like yin and yang. They feed off of each other’s creative energy, and seeing them work together is like witnessing magic being made.
With the growth of Free People, Doub has since moved from Philly and made a home in California, heading up our West Coast team out in LA. As sad as separation can be, the many miles that now stand in-between these two may have just helped their friendship grow stronger. As the OG bff’s here at Free People, I asked if each of them would write each other a letter. From reminiscing about their earliest days at FP, to calling out bad hair cuts in Morocco, take a step back in time with Carrie and Doub as they show us what being a friend is all about.
Dear Doub, Love Carrie:
