“Wonderful bread — I used it for snacking as well as for making small sandwiches.I, too, substituted bacon grease for the oil.I also replaced about 1/4 c. of white flour with 1/4 c. of pumpernickel rye flour — just to make the bread a little bolder and heartier.Easy recipe and it turned out wonderfully.I halved the recipe, and it cut the cooking time down to about 17 min. (I was using a convection oven, so that may have been why.)The next time I make this bread, however, I’ll try a different seasoning besides basil.Perhaps tarragon…?”
