  • About This Recipe

“Quick and easy baked apples are an old-fashioned comfort food. They can be made in the microwave, or baked in the oven. I often make them a little less sweet by using brown rice syrup instead of the honey. Maple syrup is a good alternative as well.”

    Ingredients

  • 2cooking apples
  • 2tablespoonsraisins
  • 1tablespoonhoney
  • 1/4 teaspoonground cinnamon
  • 1teaspoonbutter
  • Directions

  • Core the apples and pare a 1-inch strip of skin from around the middle of each to prevent splitting.
  • Place the apples in two 10-oz custard cups.
  • Pack the raisins into the apples.
  • Mix the honey and cinnamon, pour over the raisins and into the apples.
  • Top with butter.
  • Cover tightly and microwave on high (100%) until tender when pierced with a fork, 3 to 4 minutes. If you prefer, they can also be baked at 375°F for 30 minutes.

  • Reviews

  • “Delicious, and easy to make. I didn’t have any rum or any time to soak the raisins. I just poured a little boiling water on them . Turned out great. Thank you for posting.”

  • “Nice recipe.Instead of honey used brown sugar.”

  • “Delicious! I have been craving baked apples. My husband had never had them. I didn’t have raisins or rum, so just used dates. Didn’t have ice cream either, but used fresh cream :)”

  • “This was marvelous! My hubby and I had surprise guests after church, so we went to Zaar and found this wonderful recipe. We used dried cranberries instead of the raisins. It came together quickly and beautifully and drew rave reviews from our guests! We have added this to our Thanksgiving dessert list – which is perfect for our family who need gluten-free foods.”

  • “My mom has talked before of how this was her mother’s go to dessert when she was a kid. When I saw the recipe on Zaar I had to try it.Delicious!A little helping of vanilla ice cream makes this a delightful dessert.”

  • “Wonderful aroma and flavour!! very delicious, hadn’t had baked apples for ages, we sure did enjoy these ones! The honey cinnamon and butter with the raisins are a fantastic combination. DH wanted cheese on his cus they taste just like apple pie, Will sure be making these again, thanks for posting.”

  • “Delicious and somewhat healthy! I wasn’t sure if they needed to be wrapped individually in the oven too. They came out fine unwrapped, just a little bit underdone. Vanilla ice cream would be great on the side or even vanilla whipped cream!”

  • “Not only does it smell irresistible, but it also tastes great! I also put some diced peach pieces in the middle for an extra fruity flavor. Yum!”

  • “I’m not a big apple eater… but this was absolutely delicious!!!I ,however, slice the apples in half and then cut out the coreand fill the hole with raisins etc.Tastes great as a desert with some vanilla icecream!!!”

  • “Wonderful and so healthy! I wanted a snack and thought about apple crisp, however that is definitely not healthy so I found this great recipe! I changed it just a little. I didn’t use butter, but I used about 8 whole pecans with the raisins. Then when they were done, I mixed a little bit of cornstarch with the remaining liquid from the apples and microwaved for 30 sec. to create a wonderful cinnamon/honey/apple glaze that I drizzled over my perfectly done apples. I was doubtful about using the microwave but I didn’t want to take the time to bake them, and the came out perfectly! Just 3 minutes on high! Thank you so much! I will be making this quick, healthy treat often!!”

  • “I needed a dessert for this evening and had some apples. I didn’t have the raisins but this was so easy and really yummy. Thank you for the recipe.I will make it again.”

  • “easy and delicious!I made a small variation and added a touch of nutmeg (about 1/8 tsp) with the cinnimon and topped with a few chopped pecans – decadent!”

  • “This is the first time I have ever had baked apples and they were great.I had extra cream cheese icing left over from the cinnabon rolls I made earlier this week, so I cooled the apples for a few minutes and then plopped some cream cheese topping on them. OOH LA LA…no calories in those babies! Totally yummy. Thx.”

  • “Took the idea twisted it and yum.I made it as directed, with maple syrup and no butter ((vegetarian)), chopped it up and mixed it with rice. MMMMMMMM”

  • “A perfect “pick me up” for the spirit on a cold, overcast winter’s day….after a good grilled cheese!Just the smell alone is enough to make you smack your lips.I have done these many times before, but only with cinnamon and butter. This time I used maple syrup, as others suggested, and added the raisins.I did four at one time in the MW and added chopped pecans with the raisins in two….YUM! either way!I have never pared the apples before, and never have had one split, but I’ll keep that in mind. That might also be due to the fact that I MW for a longer time at 50%-70% power. I do always take a knife and “slit” the insides of the apple inside the cored part so the flavors sink deep into the apple.Perhaps that’s why thay haven’t split, or it even may have been that I slightly pierced the exterior of the apple(?).This is a great breakfast, a side dish(especially for ham), or a “non-overwhelming” dessert. Thanks for sharing!”

  • “We had these for dessert.I made 4 apples and I think they needed to cook a bit longer as they were still a little crisp, but perhaps I didn’t use the right apples.I might micro-bake them next time.We still enjoyed them, and I love having a dessert option without a ton of sugar. My husband had a good idea of serving them by turning the custard cups over onto a dish so the glaze would end up on top instead of all on the bottom. Thank you!”

  • “this ine is fantastic and fastif ur in a hurry on a cold night”

  • “My family enjoyed this recipe. It is quick in the microwave and very tasty. I used prunes instead of raisins and 100% maple syrup in place of honey. I like the fact that it is naturally sweet and processed sugar is not necessary. Great for breakfast as well as desert.”

  • “Halved the recipe and made just one apple for myself as a late evening snack. It was pretty good, but I doubt I’ll ever make it again. Worth a try though!”

  • “Excellent and easy recipe!I added a scoop of vanilla ice cream to these and my family loved them! Thanks for sharing! “
