Product
The idea behind the Finger Stylus was driven by a paralyzed client (quadriplegic) who can not move her fingers by her own intention, even though she can move her arms and wrists. And because her finger nails are keeping her from using capacitive devices, she suggested a & quot; big capacitive thimble & quot ;. After two iterations, we’ve found a proper working generic solution and we’re happy to share this now with the world. The Finger Stylus is made of a flexible cone shaped silicone kernel with an inner diameter starting at 16mm (2/3 & quot;) and a length of 45mm (2 & quot;). The fabric is the same that is used in all our Stylus Socks concept styli, it’s just a huge highly conductive sock for this purpose.

All styli and pointers use our in-house engineered Stylus Socks concept; a tip made from highly conductive fabric that is wrapped around a plug on the stylus stick. Compared with rubber or foam alternatives, they have no drag, there’s no pressure required and they do not break. History
It all started when the wife of a quad (quadriplegic) patient ordered a regular Stylus Socks stylus from our Etsy shop. She found out about our conductive socks concept while she was visiting a local Apple store and one of the employees started Googling for a proper solution. Their first approach was to put the conductive sock around the tip of their existing plastic mouth stick. But as you may know, a capacitive touch screen requires some ground (body) contact to make it work. And with a plastic mouth stick, this means that a wire needs to be wrapped around the stick and into the mouth, which is not very convenient.
Then we made a custom solution for them based on two approaches. One with a fully conductive aluminum mouth stick gaining enough electrical ground by itself, and one that uses the iPad’s body as an electrical ground so you can use it with an existing mouth stick of any material (even plastic). We shipped it and got positive feedback on both approaches. We tweeted about it and got in contact with people around the globe dealing with ALS or MS and started supporting them. A few weeks later, several of these packages got shipped to the US and AUS. And people using a head pointer got triggered as well, so that’s how we started offering the conductive plugs. Just put these around your head pointer’s tip and you’re ready to go.
