FP Me Stylist Of The Week: Fpk8
From Los Angeles to San Francisco, this week’s FP Me stylist shares her love for the golden state of California and passion for the brand.
This post comes from our blog intern, Natalie!
On several occasions I have found myself lost in Kate’s dreamy instagram feed. Not only does she have killer style, but she has a true talent for capturing beautiful moments in her travels and daily life. Being a fellow California native, her images have me longing for summer days back on the west coast, with nothing on the agenda but adventure.
With backdrops ranging from oceans to meadows, Kate’s FP Me photos are equally as incredible. We have been long admirers of the blonde beauty here at the home office, and I enjoyed the opportunity to get a deeper glimpse into her world.

Describe your hometown. What’s one of your fondest memories of growing up there?
I grew up in beautiful Marin County, located just across the Golden Gate Bridge from San Francisco. Living at the base of a mountain, filled with redwood trees and golden rolling hills, my friends and I always had a place to explore. I still love to take the ferry in to thrift at Haight Ashbury, hike the Muir woods, and taste fresh pickings from the many local farmers’ markets. Our summer nights were spent driving up to the peak of Mt. Tamalpais above the clouds, overlooking Stinson Beach and the Bolinas ridge. With a warm blanket we’d watch the sun go down. There’s nothing quite like it.

Where do you currently live? Any hidden gems you’re willing to share with us?
I’m currently a graphic design student at CalArts in Valencia, just north of Los Angeles. My boyfriend and I have explored tons of restaurants and coffee shops, and we don’t hesitate to drive 45 minutes into the city for a latte in the morning, or a street taco in the middle of the night. I really appreciate a good plant-based meal. My two favorite LA spots are My Vegan Gold (right across from Dinosaur coffee in Silverlake) and Crossroads, for a hearty plant-based, Italian-style meal.

What’s a typical day in the life of Kate look like? What are you wearing, who are you with, where are you going?
Since working at Free People, I’d say I’m usually dressed in the product head to toe. I would consider myself a Meadow or a Lou. Half of my closet is white lace, and the other half is distressed denim and t-shirts. When I’m not in school or working, I’m usually exploring new places with my man and my dog. We love checking out cafes and hiking spots all over the LA area, taking pictures along the way. When I’m in the bay area, Morgan and I are inseparable. She’s a fellow Free People employee, and outside of work, my best friend. We add on FP Me shoots to all of our adventures around Marin.

How did you find your way to Free People?
Growing up less than a mile away from the Corte Madera location, I was drawn to it immediately upon its opening. I started with the company at Anthropologie in Santa Monica — what a huge, fabulous store! From there I transferred to Free People, Corte Madera when I came home for the holiday break. I’ve since worked at the Topanga location, once I returned to school. I’m excited to see which location I’ll work at next!
What songs have you been playing on repeat recently?
Cowboy in the Sand – Neil Young
Inside Out – Spoon
Eyes of the World – Grateful Dead

Where is your favorite place you have ever traveled?
I had an amazing trip to London this summer with my family, it was my first time to Europe and I’m already looking forward to going back. I was so inspired by the fashion there, the architecture, and love that it has my “bay area fog”. It would be amazing if Free People opened a permanent location there. What a great excuse to move abroad!

What are three things you can’t live without?
My big crazy family, especially gathered around the table for a home cooked meal.
A body of water. Growing up on the bay, I get claustrophobic without it!
Avocado… on anything and everything.
In 5fiveyears, where do you see yourself?
Good question, I wish I knew! I need to be constantly creating, whether it’s through design, photography, styling, crafting… Any place where I can combine all that is where I’ll be. I hope it’s with Free People!

What is the best piece of advice you’ve ever been given?

What does being “free” mean to you?
Being without negative energy, without stress, and open to all kinds of inspiration, letting it take you wherever the wind blows.
