Hand knitted boiled wool felt hat black with fleck
This is a hat I hand knitted (large!) from pure wool, then felted down to size. It now measures approx. 26 inches at the brim and 7.5 inches from the crown, not counting the 0.5 to 1.5 inch turned-up brim. It can be worn in different ways because the brim is not stitched down. At the moment this one is styled to have slightly wider ‘wings’ at the side of the brim. It is quite firmly felted. It has a black base with definite flecks of green, blue and red. These hats are very warm and cosy and you will not want to take it off when you get inside.
It is possible to hand wash the hat with care – not too hot or it might shrink further. The best way to dry it is on your head – not comfortable but guarantees a perfect fit! To remodel the hat – eg. if you want a different style of brim – just wet it and pull it into the shape you want. They are surprisingly tough. Just pull evenly so you do not push your fingers through. The hat should last a lifetime.
