Klee’s Trees Quilt Pattern by stitchindye

A while back I traveled to Switzerland and saw many remarkable things, but not the Bern Bears. Rather, I chose to check out the Klee Museum and view a substantial array of work by the artist, Paul Klee. I was especially struck by his drawings of trees. They were simple, stylized and abstracted.
I got back knowing I wanted to translate those illustrations into a quilt pattern and, after a number of efforts, bumped into a block design that I feel records the essence of Klee’s trees.
This simple-to-piece block is graphic and clean and has a distinctly modern feel. Craft it in solids against a dark or light background or play with warm and cool colored prints to distinguish the “trees” from the “forest”.
This PDF pattern will walk you through making this lap-sized quilt with ideas for a pillow project too.
