Krobo Recycled Glass Beads Circlet by SoulofSomanya

7,00 USD

These colorful Krobo were hand-painted by among Ghana’s gifted beadmakers. They have big holes (between 2mm and 2-1/ 2mm). Like many Krobo beads, they are made from recycled glass ground up by hand in a large mortar and pestle, then fired using traditional techniques, ie fired with wood in homemade termite-clay molds and kilns and after that hand painted, with a 2nd firing after the glazes have dried.

You will get a circlet of beads like the one pictured. All proceeds from sales go to support Soul of Somanya, a non-profit company that provides training and sustainable work at a living wage to young jewelry professionals in the Krobo area of Ghana, West Africa. Soul of Somanya purchases Krobo beads at market value to offer for resale in the worldwide marketplace. In addition to enhancing local bead sales, this helps us to pay our fashion jewelry artisans a consistent living wage while concurrently enhancing the visibility of, and demand for, these stunning little artworks. To this day, we have actually shipped Krobo beads to about 46 nations worldwide.
