Love What You Do: Humboldt House
Love What You Do: Humboldt House
Take one woman, an idea, and a lot of hard work, and the outcome is a seed turned into the fullest flower.
Claire Tibbs had an idea, started from scratch, and created what is now Humboldt House – A vintage modern shop in the quaint Humboldt Park neighborhood of Chicago. Of all the places I asked about before traveling to Chicago a few months ago, this one was spoken the most highly of. It’s hard going to a city that you’ve never been to before, and trying to uncover its rare gems in only a weekend. With help from the right people, we were led down the right path – one that took us to meet Claire and her shop. If you can’t tell from the pictures, the shop is big – a necessity if treasured vintage pieces found across the US have to live there. As you wander through the shop, you feel as if you’re passing through different decades. Each corner is set up in it’s own way, with furniture from different eras arranged to compliment the many textiles and weavings that hang about. From the jewelry, to the fixtures, to the rugs…I would have gladly bought out the entire store. Claire has curated a collection of pieces that is thought out, meaningful, and true to Humboldt House character. Seeing someone who’s young and so passionate about what they’ve created for themselves is incredibly inspiring. If you don’t know what I mean, watch the video, and take a step inside Humboldt House.
Be sure to stop into Humboldt House if you are ever in Chicago!
