Make Your Own Lotion Bars For Smooth Autumn Skin

Make Your Own Lotion Bars For Smooth Autumn Skin

I made the switch from lotion to oil about a year ago, but I have to admit, there are times when I miss the ease of using regular old body lotion.

Sometimes I just don’t have the time or patience to sit around and wait for the oil to sink in. I have places to go, or, more accurately, I just want to go to bed and don’t want to ruin my sheets. This is when lotion bars come in incredibly handy. All the benefits of using your favorite oils, without the mess and wait time.

The oils used in these bars are fairly interchangeable so feel free to experiment with your favorite ones, and the amount of beeswax used can be adjusted to make them firmer or softer. Skip the beeswax and follow the same steps to create bath melts, a wonderful way to soothe winter skin (just drop one in a warm bath and allow yourself to soak). These make great gifts and are ideal for travel (no more lugging around a jar of coconut oil) or just when you’re feeling lazy (like me).

Lotion Bars

Ingredients:

1/4 cup raw cocoa butter

1/4 cup beeswax

1/4 cup coconut oil

essential oil (optional)

Silicone mold/ice cube tray

Using a double boiler or a glass jar nested in a pot of boiling water, melt all ingredients together. Once the oils and wax have melted completely, you may add any essential oils if using.

Use an oven mitt to remove the jar from the pot and carefully pour the mixture into a silicone mold.

Allow to cool completely before removing from the molds. To speed up the process, place the molds in your freezer. Store in a cool, dry place away from any heat source.
