Meet Reyn of Reyn Studios NOLA

Get to know Reyn Lambert, the heart behind Reyn Studios & the winner of our Pitch Your Studio contest!

The second I met Reyn, I knew we spoke the same language. There are certain people whose vibe is mirrored by yours. Conversations were immediately fluid; I felt like I’d known this human my entire life, when in reality I hadn’t even known her for 24 hours.

In the midst of the New Orleans heat, Reyn and I headed to the French Quarter and made our way into one of the oldest standing, livable houses in the U.S. At one point in her life, this was home for her. Vaulted ceilings, cast iron-lined balconies… you could feel the history upon entrance. I told her I wanted to take photos of her in a classic NOLA setting, but never did I think I was going to end up in a home neighboring Jackson Square and the ever popular Cafe Dumond. We were in it… the thick of it. I felt like I was going behind the scenes of the city, getting the full experience of what it was like to grow up in this culturally abundant place.

Reyn is the kind of person who listens to her heart, and follows her dreams. I wish had more time to hang out with this lady, but something tells me we’ll meet again. Below, Get to know more about Reyn Lambert and her journey with yoga, and what inspired her to create one of the best yoga studios in the country.

How did you land yourself in New Orleans? What other places have you lived prior?

Born and raised in New Orleans, college at The New School University in NYC, Pittsburgh for a hot second, Cottondale Florida workin’ on a farm. Traveled to some fierce places — Estonia, Denmark, Quebec to name a few — with a New Orleans-based dance company, then called Corbian, now known as Lightwire Theatre. Then made my way back to good Ol’ New Orleans.

What is it about New Orleans that’s kept you here?

She is a Siren, always calls you back.

Can you remember your first experience with yoga? How did it become such a big part of your life?

My best friend Hanna W. Moorehead introduced vinyasa-style yoga to me. She introduced me to 87% of life.

What inspired you to start your own studio?

The space for the most part. I was familiar with the building since I was a little girl. I always dreamed of this broken down old warehouse loft becoming a studio of some kind… and now it is.

What’s been the most rewarding thing you’ve learned since starting your own business?

My studio is what it is because my staff is incredible. My managers Jennifer and Shannon, the amazing team, and community. We are all Reyn Studios and that’s what makes it special.

Were you shocked when you found out that your studio won our Pitch Your Studio contest?

Yes! Such an honor and amazing experience. Working with you, Catie and Sarah…. I mean I’d do it every day.

For someone who has never taken one of your classes before, what can they expect?

They are in good hands, don’t over think it! The most difficult part of yoga is making it to your mat. Whether that happens at the studio or in a home practice, get on your mat and start breathing. The only “bad yoga” is not doing yoga.

What is it about the art of teaching that you love so much?

The freedom to move.

Outside of yoga, what other things do enjoy doing that help you maintain a healthy lifestyle?

I love the beach. Every opportunity I take to go SUP, swim, play in the water… that’s my jam.

If you weren’t a yoga teacher in New Orleans, where else could you see yourself living and what would you be doing?

Hawaii. The most magical place I have been thus far. The energy and air there is unlike any I’ve seen or felt.

Do you have a life mantra that you live by? Your chill and free-spirited vibe is extremely contagious… how do you maintain a positive outlook?

Corban Popp and Ian Carney of Lightwire Theatre, always had this moto “Calm People” – I think about it every day, and it is yours to interpret. I have found it extremely helpful. Thank you.
