Get to know our stunning June e-book model, Jasmine Sanders, in an exclusive interview.
Jasmine Sanders is one of those women who epitomizes calm, cool, collected. She is charismatic as hell. She’s a girl who would jump in the car and road trip across the country with you in a heartbeat. She’s a girl who listens intently when she asks a question. She’s a girl who would lend you her lipstick in the bathroom. She’s the type of girl everyone wants in their life.
Jasmine is the stunning face of our June E-Book and she taps out the cool factor in every look she wears. We caught up with her and asked her a few questions – here’s what she had to say.
Where did you grow up? How has that shaped who you are today?
I was born in Frankenthal Germany but I was raised in Columbia, South Carolina. Being from the south has given me that Southern hospitality that I take with me everywhere.
What were you like as a kid?
I was a full-on tomboy! It was more fun for me to play basketball with my dad and roughhouse with my friends than do the typical girl stuff. I was always coming home with a new cut or bruise like it was a badge of honor.
I love that! So, when did you get into modeling? What was your big break?
When I was 13 years old I met Sheilah Dixon of Millie Lewis Columbia and we did a test shoot. The images were sent to New York and I was signed right away.
When have you been the most nervous on a job?
Before stepping foot on the Miu Miu runway during Paris Fashion Week. I was extremely nervous but as soon as I hit the runway my adrenaline was pumping and it was my proudest career moment to date.
That’s awesome. And your favorite photo shoot thus far? (Besides this one of course!)
I had such a great time on this shoot and I’m super excited for it to come out! Everyone has been raging about the behind the scenes images from this shoot and I’m excited to share a different side of me. One of my favorite shoots was with Randall Salvin because I had natural hair and no make up. It was one of my favorite shoots because it was centered around my own emotional expression unlike anything I’ve done thus far.
I’m never seen without my headphones. Between listening to music or being hands-free while talking on the phone, I always have them with me.
How do you stay healthy while on the road? Any good tips for us?
I’m constantly drinking water. If I’m craving soda I will mix ginger ale and cranberry juice. I stay away from bread, rice, fried food and desserts. Smaller portions also help. I actually tend to work out more when I’m on the road.
Favorite form of exercise?
I love focusing on anything that works my core and legs. I love yoga and weight lifting but I limit the weight training of my upper body to avoid getting too toned.
We will never find you….
I’m pretty open to doing a lot because everything is always a new adventure. For instance I’m terrified of heights but if the opportunity to sky dive presented itself then I would be up for it.
How would your friends describe you?
My friends would most likely say I’m the mom of the group. I feed off the energy so I try to make sure everyone is having a good time and I’m more concerned about that and making sure everyone is getting home safely and enjoying themselves.
What does it mean to be “free?”
Being free is being able to wake up and make your own decisions. Freedom is having the strength and ability to say no and really do what you want to do. When you’re free you’re able to wake up in the morning and be content with the decisions you’ve made in the past -good or bad- and believe that you are where you need to be to reach your goal.
