Morning Boost: Maca Chia Matcha Drink

Start your week off right with this superfood drink!

I’ve never been one for coffee. It always seems to make me feel more jittery than awake. To be honest, I’ve always tended to avoid caffeine of any type… until now. I recently discovered the delicious, healthy, energy-filled drink that is Organic Avenue’s Matcha Chia Glo – and I’ve been hooked ever since.

Lucky for us, this health food shop happens to list every ingredient of every item they sell… so I decided to try making this heavenly drink on my own. With a few little tweaks to make it unique, here’s my version: the Maca Chia Matcha Drink.

It’s made with energy-boosting superfoods maca, chia, and matcha to wake you up in a way that feels incredible and actually nourishes your body.

Maca root is an Incan superfood that has been used for thousands of years as a source of healing. It’s filled with vitamins, minerals, and amino acids that nourish your precious body, boost your libido, and energize like no other.

“Chia” is the ancient Mayan word for “strength.” The seeds of this incredible plant are filled with an array of nutrients and antioxidants. They’re especially loved for their content of protein and omega-3 fatty acids – a combo that offers up tons of energy and keeps your skin and hair in a goddess-like state (more about that here!).

Matcha green tea is a wonderful ancient ingredient made from high-quality whole leaves. The preparation of this powerful tea can be a meditation in itself – this is actually the focus of the traditional Japanese tea ceremony known as “Chado,” or “Way of Tea.” In addition to being incredibly energizing, matcha tea contains polyphenols, which are believed to help boost metabolism, regulate blood sugar, and protect against heart disease and cancer.


1 cup almond milk (learn to make your own!)

¼ cup chia seeds (soaked in purified water or almond milk overnight)

1 teaspoon maca powder

1 teaspoon matcha powder* (or way more, depending on how much caffeine you like)

2 teaspoons coconut sugar

½ teaspoon vanilla extract

1 pinch pink Himalayan salt

To make, I like to combine everything in a glass jar, tighten the lid, and shake!

Try creating a version with your own additions – I’m thinking peppermint oil… cacao powder… coconut flakes… see what you come up with!

*Just a heads up: When I make this, sometimes a few tiny clumps of the matcha powder will have a hard time combining fully with the rest of the liquid, so just be prepared for an extra-bitter sip here and there. 😉
