  • “I luv this. Our recipe is a little different. It’s a meal within itself, almost. We cook bacon until crisp. Boil a potato and cut up.Add asparagus (canned) and chopped boiled egg.mix all together and add the heated bacon/vinegar dressing.”

  • “We make ours a little differently here in the Ozarks – we scramble a couple of eggs and mix in with the greens before adding the dressing. We also don’t use the sugar. My mom always makes this when she makes fresh deep-fried white or black bass. She serves with pan-fried potatoes and cornbread! It’s a traditional family meal. Thanks for posting!”

  • “My mom use to make this as well! I love it!”

  • “OMG!So good!Felt like a visit baack to Grama’s house.Just simply wonderful.”

  • “Delicious recipe.Made with leftover bacon grease and arugula.Instead of the vinegar, water and sugar I used a raspberry balsamic vinegar which is sweet by itself.I also added a little minced garlic to dressing before adding the vinegar.”

  • “I used to make this all the time. It was the only salad my husband would eat. He did not eat salad or vegetables but he would eat most of this by himself.”

  • “This is a summertime staple at our house. The only thing we do different is add chopped boiled and and some crushed red pepper flakes along with the crumbled bacon.Makes me want summer here now!”

  • “Thank you, thank you.I used have this salad every Sunday many years ago…I loved it and never could find the recipe. So again, thanks, I can’t wait to have it AGAIN!!”

  • “My Mother made this also. And it sounds like the very same way. I lost my Mother may 2001. Alot of her recipes I have. And many of them like wilted lettuce she never wrote down. Thanks for this!”

  • “My mom also made this recipe with the garden’s first greens.Extremely fattening but sometimes you just gotta say what the heck!”

  • “My Mom makes this all the time with the leaf lettuce she grows in her back yard.Must be a Southern Illinois recipe!”
