  • About This Recipe

“Just a different way to cook broccoli (and to me, anything that is spicy or has garlic is good)!”

    Ingredients

  • 2tablespoonsolive oil( light is best)
  • 1teaspoondried red pepper flakes
  • 4garlic cloves, minced
  • 1/2 cupchicken broth
  • 2lbsbroccoli
  • Directions

  • Cut broccoli into bite sized pieces.
  • Boil in salted water for about 5 to 7 minutes (broccoli should just start to soften).
  • Rinse under COLD water (to stop the cooking).
  • Dry to remove any excess water.
  • In a large skillet, heat the oil until hot.
  • Add the garlic and pepper flakes.
  • Sauté for 1 minute.
  • Add the broccoli and “some” of the broth.(I say “some” as you don’t want it soaking in it, you just want it to help steam and add flavor)
  • Cook for 2 to 4 minutes (depending on the way you like your broccoli, tender or crisp) stirring the entire time. Season lightly with table salt.
  • As everyone has their own tastes, increase or decrease the garlic and or pepper flakes as desired.

  • “Made this for supper tonight with our red snapper, they went well together. It was very good and we will have it again, often.I cut the recipe in half and only used 1/4 tsp red pepper flakes and left the garlic as 4 cloves (we love garlic), very tasty, thanks for sharing a good one!”

  • “I needed a change of pace from the standard veggies, so decided to make this recipe with chicken for dinner last night.I was pleasantly surprised at how good it was, since the chicken broth really blended well with the flavor of the broccoli. It will be added to my favorites! Thanks, Risë!”

  • “Yum!!,yum, yum!!I could go on with yhe yums forever. This was absoulutoly delicious!!!Had this Sunday night,it was perfect becauuse we had had a BIG lunch and didnt want something to heavy!!!I served it over steamed rice and soy sauce and I didnt change a thing!!!Will definatly make again, the only thng I will do different is double the recipe cause I could have eaten several more bowls!!!Thank you!!!!”

  • “I made this recipe last night with Roasted chicken and it was simply wonderful.I especially liked the lightness of the olive oil with the garlic as it gave the brocolli a nice fresh clean taste.Really enjoyed this one and will be fixing again this weekend to impress the hubby. Thanks Risë!”

  • “Deserves more than 5 stars!! This was incredible. Loved the mix of spices. Served this with grilled salmon and green salad. The perfect meal. Thanks so much for the great idea.”

  • “This was supper tonight for me and me alone, and I thoroughly enjoyed both the solitude and the meal.I nuked the broccoli in the microwave to soften in, the continued on the stovetop, using vegetable broth instead of chicken, and I added some freshly minced ginger. Thanks Rise, the peace and quiet in my house and this excellent dish made my evening!”

  • “This is just a fantastic way to fix brocolli.Thank you so much.I doubled the garlic with great results.”

  • “Excellent recipe!I did two things differently – I did not pre boil the brocolli I just stir fried it with the garlic and peppers and I used one fresh red, mediumhot peppers finley chopped ( I don’t know the name of these peppers they are new this yearhere and are long thin in red or green)Very tasty broccoli Thanks Rise”

  • “this was so good. i steamed the broccoli instead of boiling, just a personal preference. BF says “this was excellant” the hot from the pepper flakes blended so well with the garlic. we LOVE fresh broccoli, and i make it a lot, but i never thought of adding garlic (our favoirte too) this will definately be a keeper!”

  • “Oh geez, was this ever good. Thanks Rise!! I love broccoli but get a little tired of having it steamed or boiled. This just makes the flavor come alive. The garlic and pepper flakes are what make this so yummy. Outstanding.”

  • “Made this to go with a pork roast last night! I did half the recipe but followed it to the letter.Very easy to do & a pleasing change of pace. The garlic & pepper flakes were perfect with the broccoli. This will be one we have again.”

  • “Served this alongside stuffed chicken rolls. Couldn’t get any better. The taste of this broccoli is superb!!”

  • “This was fabulous!I wish I had made more, I could have had it as my main course it was so good.”

  • “This is an excellent dish. The only variation I made was to reduce the amount of red pepper to 1/2 tsp, which was just zippy enough for our tastes.Neither my husband or I eat broccoli often because it winds up so bland. Not in this case.It was quite delicious!I might even try substituting some white wine for the broth for another variation. Also–this makes a lot-so when I started the 2nd step I removed half of the broccoli after a couple of minutes and put in frig for another meal. When I reheated it 2 days later it was not mushy as a result.Thansk for a great recipe!”

  • “I have a recipe much like this except I dont precook the broccoli, just stir-fry in a bit of olive oil, then add the garlic and bouillon.”

  • “We eat a lot of broccoli and this is a good recipe for us as we like spicy and garlic! Easy and good and goes well with any meat entree.”

  • “I LOVED this broccoli. Mom, dad, and my sisters all raved about it whenever I made it for supper. I made it along with chicken diane and steamed carrots. This is definitly different from steamed broccoli. And it’s SOO TASTY!I’ll be making it again, and again, and again.I will probably make it twice a week. Whenever I made it I used roasted garlic chicken broth”

  • “Great way to fix broccoli!!!!!!!!!”

  • “Did I never rate this!? OMG! We eat this like once a week with everything from Katsudon to Ribeye steaks! Mmm our favorite Broccoli recipe.:update:After making this recipe for a while I decided to skip steps 2-5. I just cook the broccoli by steaming it in the broth per step 10 (but I cover the pan to allow it to steam)”
