Sloppy Joes
About This Recipe
“This is found in my recipe collection under “Mrs. McCann’s Barbeque”. It was handed down from a neighbor of my great-aunt’s sometime in the 1940’s. I prefer to use ground round so there isn’t so much fat. Gets better the longer it simmers.”

“This was great. Made it a couple times, already. Most ingredients are usually on hand anyway. Beats the heck out of canned or boxed mixes.”
“This is a good, old-fashioned tasting slopppy joe recipe. The mustard flavor comes through strong and clear.I choose to make this recipe because I had all the ingredients on hand.”
“These “Sloppy Joe’s” are outstanding. My wife makes them on a fairly regular basis.Fortunately for me, I have an understanding wife. She leaves the onions out of this dish just for me because I do not like onions at all in anything. Not all of us do like onions in spite of what you onion lovers think.Join my club “OGRE”.Onions and Garlic Ruin Everything!”
“This was a great and quick meal.I didn’t add the salt, don’t think it was missed. Thanks for a tasty sloppy joe recipe!”
“Great Recipe!I could not stand the thought of tacos again and found your recipe fit what I had on hand.I followed a few reviewers coments and added 1/2 cup of water to keep it saucy-worked like a charm-better than anything out of a can.Easy to come together-fast and very tasty! The Mr. raved! Thanks for Posting,Di ;-)”
“Really good”
“I finally have a Sloopy Joe recipe my husband loves!Thank you so much!I love that I have these items in the house!”
“Tried this one tonight. Hubby said he would like it a little bit “saucier”. The flavor was great! The 5yr. old raved about it and called it a sloppy jaloppy! We will have it again but I will make it a bit more “sloppy”.Lami”
“I really liked this recipe.Simple yet it had really good flavor.Like Chef Blade said you have all the ingredients at hand, so easy to make at last minute. I will definitely make again!”
“Stumbled across this on a busy after school, homework, dance class, and “Mom! It’s our Halloween party at dance!” night.I had all the ingredients on hand so I went for it.The only thing I did differently was added more ketchup but kept the rest of the amounts of other ingredients the same as I read the comment the mustard flavor came across pretty strong.Comes together quick – I just added everything together in the skillet, turned the burner on low, put a lid on it (LOL!), kissed my dancing girl goodbye, and have an hour to myself – HEAVEN!”
“The textbook definition of comfort food! The only thing I changed was to add some garlic and a poblano pepper I had lying around. Wonderfun, will absolutely be making this again.”
“Wow. That was DELISH. This recipe is definitely being added to my favorites. Great flavor and I love that there wasn’t a huge amount of sauce to take away from the entire sandwich.”
“Followed the suggestions of others and doubled the sauce . . . . these were incredible! So good that when I overcooked a pot roast a couple of weeks later, I used the thinly sliced meat in place of ground round …. turned an epic failure (the post roast) into a roaring success (BBQ beef sandwiches)!”
“This smelled absolutely wonderful!!We made it with ground venison…it’s a little sweeter than I would like so I will just cut the sugar in half next time.Even though I thought it was a little sweet it still deserves five stars….:)Thanks for sharing we will definitely be making it again.”
“Very good!I used 2 lbs meat and tripled the sauce recipe. Added 1/2 cup water and a little more Worcestershire sauce. Also, I was out of onions so I added onion powder but it still came out great. My picky kids loved it which is always a plus.”
“This turned out perfectly. Easy to make from ingredients found in most kitchens.”
“So Good!! I used 1 1/2 pounds of meat and doubled the sauce. I can’t imagine not doubling the sauce, it would have been really dry( but that could just be a matter of personal preference) I added a little water, cooked the onion along with afew slices of chopped up raw bacon, and a few extra splashes of worcestershire because it was a little heavy on the ketchup for my taste. I will definitely make this again! Thanks.”
“These were excellent! We did a few things to decrease the salt, but otherwise, made as is. Yummmy! We served open faced on multi grain bread.”
