St Apollonia Medal – Patron of dentists – Antique Reproduction by rosamystica
30,00 USD
This medal is made of sterling silver and will have a matching holy card in an organza gift bag, so it’s ready to offer as a present to somebody else or yourself.
St Apollonia was a Christian living in Alexandria during the persecutions of the Emperor Philip. While most of the Christians were getting away the city, abandoning all their worldly belongings, an old deaconess, Apollonia, was seized. The crowds beat her, knocking out all of her teeth. Then they lit a large fire and threatened to toss her in it if she did not curse her God. She asked them to wait a minute, acting as if she was considering their demands. Instead, she jumped voluntarily into the flames and so suffered martyrdom.
This medal was cast from a classic medal in my collection so it reveals all the wear of the original piece. It’s been toppled for sturdiness and oxidized to provide it an aged patina.
