    “A fun project to do with the kids, for the kids, etc. A great holiday treat idea.”

    Ingredients

  • 1/3 cupvegetable shortening
  • 1/3 cupsugar
  • 1egg
  • 3cupsflour( mixed with 1/2 tsp baking soda)
  • 1/2 teaspoonsalt(optional)
  • 2/3 cuphoney
  • lollipops orhard candies, several colors,crushed
  • Directions

  • Preheat oven to 375 F degrees.
  • Line cookie sheets with foil.
  • Measure first 6 ingredients into the bowl.
  • Mix til a soft dough is formed.
  • Divide dough into 12 pieces.
  • OUTLINES FOR COOKIES: Roll the dough between hands making snake shapes about 1/4- inch thick.
  • Place rope on prepared cookie sheet and form into a design.
  • (Shapes like dreidles, Jewish stars, etc… for Chanukah, X-mas trees, ornaments for Christmas).
  • NOTE: Be sure dough ends are completely pinched together as these will form the outline of the stained glass picture.
  • Sprinkle the crushed candies inside the dough outlines, filling the spaces completely and heaping slightly.
  • Carefully insert a craft stick into cookie, forming a “lollipop”.
  • Bake in oven for 8 to 10 minutes, watching carefully.
  • Remove cookie sheets from oven and place on counter to cool.
  • When cooled, gently peel off foil from each cookie pop.
  • You will have created a beautiful created a stained glass effect!
  • Wrap each cookie pop in plastic wrap.
  • For gift giving, tie with a colorful ribbon.
  • These cookies can easily be made by children (with careful supervision).

  • “This is a fun recipe.To do it with a group of kids, do not line the cookie sheet.Instead, have each child assemble their cookie on a piece of aluminum foil.Write each name on the corner of the foil with permanent marker.Now, it is easy to remember which cookie goes with which child.By the way, any sugar cookie recipe will work for the dough.”

  • “I made these for my son’s Christmas party in his 1st grade class.The mom’s who were there all said they were beautiful, and the kids were excited to have a lollipop in the middle of a cookie.My only problem was the dough seemed to crumble more than I expected, so my 6 year old wasn’t able to help with rolling the “snakes”.We did find that if we broke the candy into large pieces (break a Jolly Rancher in two) the colors stayed separated quite nicely in the cookie.”
