6 Key Pieces I Bought For Winter After Moving To New York

@smythsisters, winter fashion, winter style, winter trends, winter outfit inspiration, New York City, New Yorker, street style I’d toyed with the idea of moving to New York since college, but it wasn’t until this past summer that I finally handed over my car keys and kissed the palm tree-lined streets of Los Angeles goodbye. I’d like to say that I was relocating for work,

Hot Air

I love anything that has a whimsical or quirky print, so when I spotted this blouse adorned with hot air balloons from Zara last month there was no debate about whether I should purchase it or not. Although I’ve never been in a hot air balloon, I do have nice memories of them. For example, when I was growing up I lived in upstate New York, we would constantly see hot air balloons floating over our house. This was quite beautiful, but also very disturbing to our golden retriever who would bark incessantly at them. Well, it’s always nice to find an article of clothing that is both whimsical and allows you to take a hot air balloon ride down memory lane! Although I was decisive about the shirt, I was a little indecisive about the skirt I am wearing in today’s post. I knew that I loved this midi skirt from J. Crew when it popped back up on their website, however, it was only available in a petite size and at 5’9″ I am definitely not petite! I went back and forth for a little while about purchasing it, especially since it was final sale, but ultimately pulled the trigger, figuring that the length wouldn’t be that much different. When the skirt arrived in the mail, I was pleasantly surprised that its length, although shorter, was actually just about perfect. To be honest, I have bought petite sizes before when I was in a crunch for something I really wanted, and it seems to usually work out. Shirt: Zara here Skirt: J. Jitterbuggin’ 1940s Style “Ankeny Slacks” Reproduction High Waist, Wide Leg Suspender Pants

FabGabs is delighted bring you quality reproduction pieces by Northwest clothing line, Jitterbuggin’. This well-made brand is no longer active, and we have been lucky enough to consign their deadstock. That means that while there’s multiple sizes and colors of many pieces, the quantity is limited – just like vintage, there will never be more. The Ankeny Slacks are possibly my favorite of all pieces from the line, ever. I own this in multiple textiles. This style is a sporty shape, with ultra high, pointed midwaist and suspender straps that cross at the back. The pants are wide, with single front pleats. They have a very functional pocket on the right, and close with a zipper on the left. The material is a very sturdy and heavy Black Cotton Twill. The sizing ended up not entirely accurate after manufacturing, so I am not listed them using the tagged sizes, and have broken them into number sizes here, with specific measurements. I have included the original tagged size under my own sizes, so you are not surprised upon arrival. Also, both the straps and the pant legs are cut a little long on these so you can adjust as desired. These are close-outs, there are no returns for fit. Size 4/6. Tagged a 28″ Measures 28.5″ along the high waist. Measure 4″ above the natural waist. What larger sizes there were mostly sold before the brand retired. I cannot have any further pieces made. These items are deadstock and unworn, with the exception of the size 4/6 sample modeled in the lookbook. Some have been unwrapped and then repackaged for measurements.
