Thoughts to Things: How to Have the Best Year Ever With Sakara Life
Resolving to keep it clean this year? The folks of Sakara Life are here to help…
It’s January 3rd and at this point, my list of resolutions for 2016 is about a mile long. Top of mind? My own health and wellness. This is the year I come first. After all, if I’m not at the top of my game, I’m of no use to anyone else, am I? After a dizzying December, January is a clean, fresh slate, the perfect time to refocus on what makes you feel great… and what makes you feel maybe sorta terrible. If you’ve also vowed to put the spotlight on yourself, S-Life Mag, the official magazine of Sakara Life, is here to help guide you. Each week this month they’ll be sharing their tips and tricks for living your best, most balanced life through detoxifying ingredients and practices. Unlike a full on juice cleanse, which ends after a set amount of time, you’ll be able to incorporate these ideas and recipes into your routine all year long. Talk about best year ever! As we move from the hustle of the holiday season into a new year, it’s not uncommon to hear resolutions of improved health and wellbeing from those around us (and ourselves!). What are your tips for starting the year off right?
Food isn’t just nourishment, it’s the foundation for all kinds of radical life change—which is why so many of us turn to it come January 1st. (This year I’ll eat better, this year I’ll treat my body better, this year I’ll stop drinking Diet Coke…for good.) What you put into your body has a direct relationship to your career, love life, relationships, and ability to manifest your dreams. If you got off track a bit during the holidays—and who doesn’t?—find peace in the fact that you can re-center yourself through eating whole, cleansing, loving foods. You have that opportunity every day to bring your body back to balance, and you’re totally in control of it! But it’s about more than just the act of eating clean. We always say that what you think, you create—basically, your mind is immensely powerful and what you put out there is what you get back. So rather than just setting a goal— i.e. to lose weight—focus on the intention behind that goal—i.e. to build a strong body that makes you feel empowered to succeed in other areas of your life, like your career or relationship. And be specific! This is the idea to which you’ll be devoting your precious energy, and the dream you’ll be working to manifest. Usher in the New Year with a clarity of purpose and a whole lot of passion.
Of course, this goes hand in hand with another principle of ours—love yourself and be gentle. Any time you set a goal to bring about some sort of life change, it’s so important to be kind to yourself along the way. Keep your triumphs and your pitfalls in perspective. Don’t beat yourself up if you hit a roadblock. We all know rules were made to be broken, so be flexible. If you’re going to quit eating sugar, that’s wonderful, but when your birthday rolls around and someone makes you your absolute favorite cake, have some! Life is about balance. Finally, enlist the support of your loved ones to keep you accountable, and do the same for them. When it comes to sticking to New Year’s resolutions, there is strength in numbers.
Do you have resolutions of your own you’re striving for in 2016?
In 2016, we want to celebrate the connection between what you eat and what you’re capable of being, doing and creating. Like we said, it all starts with food—when you fuel yourself with clean, whole, real food, not only do you build a body that makes you feel strong, beautiful and powerful, but you also enhance the many other facets of your life. So we want to encourage our creativity to thrive, both by building a strong home base through what we eat, and by exposing ourselves to new inspirations—anything that opens up our minds, helps us see the world a little differently and gets us to tap into our innermost creative impulses. And of course, we want to keep on helping people transform into their best selves through cleansing, healing, loving food!
What are the benefits of incorporating cleansing ingredients into one’s diet, rather than opting into a full on cleanse?
Incorporating detoxifying ingredients into your everyday life is much more sustainable than doing a crash-diet-like cleanse. After all, you are what you do the majority of the time, so if you adopt habits that you can keep up regularly, you’ll be more likely to see transformational results (and feel good all the time, not just for a few days or weeks).
Do you have ingredients you use on a daily basis that you swear by?
Yes, definitely! But we don’t want to give too much away too soon. Stay tuned this month for some of our favorite go-to ingredients!
What are you most looking forward to in the New Year? Any personal and/or professional goals you’d be willing to share?
We always revel in the chance for a fresh start, so we’re looking forward to that clean-slate moment on January 4th when the holiday have passed and everyone is back in action and buzzing with renewed energy and motivation. We’re also really excited about watching our fellow Sakaralites reach their goals this year! For us, resolutions aren’t just about bettering yourself, but helping those you love do the same as well. By supporting each other and keeping each other accountable, we’re all more likely to succeed.

What is your mantra for 2016? Any sage words you’ll be living by?
Thoughts to things! This is sort of our permanent mantra, but as we—Sakara and ourselves as individuals—grow and evolve in 2016, we are especially focused on the idea that we can manifest our wildest dreams. In Sanskrit, “Sakara” actually translates to the manifestation of thoughts to things!
