Tippe Top – It flips and spins upside down! by nealbrand
20,00 USD
You will not think exactly what this fun top does when you give it a great spin! It chooses not to spin ideal side up, however rather flips itself over and spins upside down. After the leading turns over, it does a nice little dance for several seconds prior to it stops and goes back to an upright position. The body of the tippe top is made from dymondwood (an expensive dyed plywood) and the stem is colored jelutong from Southeast Asia.
I do not understand the physics of why the top turns over. Apparently it is because of friction and gravity together creating torque which compels the leading to turn over. A remarkable fact is that if you spin the top clockwise, after it turns it is still spinning clockwise. This suggests the leading really stops spinning about its axis eventually and after that reverses its axis spin!
This top is not planned for children under 6 as it could be a choking hazard.
