Transitional Weather: What To Buy Now
As I write this, a cool breeze is blowing in through my window, and I. Am. Thrilled. I know so many people are sad to see summer end, but I for one am stoked for fall. Especially when it comes to clothes.
This new season is exactly the jolt of energy a tired wardrobe needs. After months of the same rotation, suddenly there’s new elements and events to dress for, and this past weekend I started to make the switch between summer and fall.
While I made piles to keep and donate, I found myself creating a mental list of the items I’d like to add to my closet this season. A sweater here, a pair of jeans there, the list started off innocently enough (as most wishlists do) but snowballed quickly. It may seem early, but now is the perfect time to add certain fall pieces to your closet – be sure to check out our latest lookbook, the Fall Trend Report, for more inspiration!
A cozy cardigan looks amazing layered over a summer dress and paired with boots, or combined with fall staples like henleys and corduroy once the weather gets cooler. Choose one with a mix of autumnal hues like cranberry, navy, and mustard to maximize the opportunities for wear.
I love how the lace sleeve of this top peeks out from the cuff of this amazing oversized sweater. Mix in elements of gold to contrast against the relaxed fabrics and warm fall tones.

A boxy, borrowed-from-your-boyfriend jacket looks super cute layered over a flared mini and relaxed tee (and equally amazing with jeans and a sweater). This kind of look is a go-to for me in autumn, and I love that it can be dressed down with a casual beanie or sneakers, or slightly elevated with a floppy hat and heeled booties. Get the look: Slouchy Boyfriend Jacket, Keep me Tee, Good Day Sunshine Mini, Hybrid Heel Boot, Embellished Matador Hat.
Make a beach-y dress work for fall with cozy accessories like thigh highs and a leather jacket. This is the perfect transitional look for mid-September days that may start out at 50 degrees but climb to the mid-70s. Each layer can be adjusted depending on the temperature, and these accessories can be easily incorporated into other looks. For more tall sock and boot inspiration, check out our On the Rise Trend!
Get the look: Charlie Cuff Beanie, Full Moon Maxi, Classic Biker Jacket, Balta Boot, Greenwich Thigh High.
