Vintage Little Dutch Wooden Tub – Traditional Friesian Hindelooper Painting – The Netherlands by P8iosities
11,00 EUR Stunning little classic wooden tub from Hindeloopen in Friesland in The Netherlands. Hindeloopen is nowadays a little town with only 850 residents. However in the 17th and 18th century Hindeloopen was a vital seafaring and trading neighborhood with over 2,500 inhabitants. The captains of Hindeloopen undertook their journeys to Denmark, Norway, Sweden and Russia. The town had strong overseas connections with Amsterdam and had barely any contacts with the hinterland of Friesland. That is probably the reason that this little town developed its own richly decorated painting art. Rooms in the old houses had painting paneled walls, furnishings and small products, all in the normal Hindelooper recognizable colors and design illustrating roses.
This lovely little barrel is of handpainted wood with the common Hindelooper dark green background with roses. I purchased it at the end of the 1970s in one of the Hindelooper painting ateliers
