Easy Morning Makeup Routine
Makeup is one of those things that I personally hate to love. It takes time to put on, but the end result can lift up your spirits, and help you feel put together. Growing up, I was definitely the type of girl who’d rather get muddy with the boys than play dress up with the girls. It wasn’t until my first high school homecoming dance that I started to get more into the world of makeup. I remember going to the mall to have a professional work their magic, and feeling excited to get dolled up for the first time.
But let’s get real…we’re not going to homecoming every day of our lives. Waking up and getting ready for work everyday can be a struggle, and sometimes I wish I could just press a button and makeup would magically appear on my face. I tend to be a snoozer with my alarm, and most of the time I wake up later than I had originally planned. Over the past couple years, I’ve perfected a pretty easy morning makeup routine, that helps me achieve a long lasting, natural day look in a short amount of time. Less is more in my opinion, and all it takes is a few key products to get a nice, clean, and natural look.
Here’s what I’ve become quite accustomed to!
1) Revlon Colorstay Concealer in 04 Medium
2) Stila Tinted Moisturizer in warm
3) Beautique Brow Pencil in Mahogany
4) Benefit They’re Real! Mascara
5) Maybelline Volume Express Mega Plush Mascara in Blackest Black
6) bareMinerals Bronzer in Faux Tan
*My skin tends to stay fairly tan throughout the year, so the above colors are what work for me.
Once I wake up, the first thing I always do is wash my face. It’s best to start with a clean surface before putting on any makeup.
First, I put a few dots of concealer underneath my eyes (to hide dark circles), and over any blemishes I may have. Using a concealer brush or my fingertip, I’ll blend it into my skin.
Next, I use tinted moisturizer. In the summertime, my face tends to be a little darker than usual, so I use less of this during those months. I love this one from Stila because it also contains SPF 20. I’ll put a few dabs on my forehead, cheek bones, and eye lids, then blend in using a foundation brush.
My third step is to darken my brows. I always go for a color that’s as close to my hair color as possible, and lightly shade them in. I don’t like the line a freshly sharpened pencil creates, so I always buffer the tip a bit on my hand before filling in. After both are filled in, I go back and brush them with an eyebrow brush.
After the brows comes mascara. This is one of the most necessary steps for me. I love how a few coats of mascara can really enhance your eyes. I always go for black, but if you want an even lighter look, try using a brown shade. I’ll start with a few coats of Benefit They’re Real! Mascara . I go through bottles pretty regularly, but I always have an older bottle on deck that’s almost to the point of being empty. I like to go back over my lashes with a semi coated brush to separate my lashes, and to give them a little extra lift. Maybelline Volume Express Mega Plush Mascara always does the trick!
To complete the look, I finish with a few swipes of bronzer. This can really help with achieving that beachy, sun-kissed look. I apply this on the areas on the face where the sun normally hits – the cheekbones, top of the forehead, and around the jawline. If you happen to apply too much, you can use a cotton round to wipe some off. You never want it to be streaky!
This routine is what I’ve found to work the best for me, and not just in the summer, but all year round!
