  • “This was outta site..very quick and easy.I served mine over rice also.I couldn’t find any green chili pepper flakes, so I threw in some red pepper flakes..(not too many)..but it was a great recipe.I’ll definitely put this on my “make again” list.Thank you!!”

  • “This was wonderful. I served ours over boiled potatoes (just like dad used to do). I also added a bit of basil (again, like dad used to do). It was delicious and the meat as so tender. Thanks!”

  • “Mmmmmmmmmm very good!!Just one complaint from DH, he thought it was too hot, tinlgly lips, I may have been too generous with the pepper flakes, will use less next time, I added some carrots and celery, other than that followed the instructions exactly and it was great. I should say though that mine was done in one hour, steak was sooo tender, could cut with a fork. One we will be making again and again, comfort food!! Thanks for sharing.”

  • “Very tasty and not too much trouble to make.I did sprinkle some Tony Chachere’sBrown Gravy and Roux mix into the finished sauce, mixed it up well, and put it back into the oven to cook for a few moreminutes and thicken. That really ‘made’ the dish for me.Will add to my menu to make more often.”

  • “Very flavorful and HOT! I did substitute 3/4 tablespoon red pepper flakes for the green chilli pepper flakes so maybe that’s why it was extra hot. Otherwise I followed the directions exactly and was very pleased with the results.”

  • “Thank you!!! My son (who very much dislikes round steak) ate two servings of this. My daughter wouldn’t touch it, but she is extremely picky. I didn’t add as much garlic, because husband & kids don’t like it as much as I do. Will be making this again!”

  • “Finally got around to trying this.It actually did 3 meals. The original as a steak dinner, cold sandwiches, and heated up left overs (the sauce is terrific) on rice!!Like # 7 says “simple” but it should have added”good”.Thanks Mirj”

  • “This was a good recipe for my mother’s birthday dinner (I generally like spicier food, but this was one we could agree on).Really good over mashed potatoes!”

  • “Wonderful recipe!!! I did use cube steak instead of round steak and it was melt in your mouth good. My family really enjoyed this. Thank you!”

  • “I thought this recipe was a little bland, I added more garlic than called for and I still couldn’t taste it. Overall a good base recipe, i just felt like it needed something.”

  • “This is great stuff – I used frozen leftover steaks from a party…”

  • “Excellent! I little hot, but wonderful! Next time I will just add less chili pepper flakes!”

  • “I can’t really say that this was very good but from all the good reviews i reckon it must have been something i did…it seemed a bit bland somehow. Maybe i’ll have another go at it some other time!”

  • “Great recipe!I used a can of diced tomatoes, red pepper flakes, added a little green bell pepper, celery, and carrots as suggested by another reviewer.Baked for suggested time.It was fabulous! Thanks for such a great recipe, Mirj!!”

  • “This is sooo good! The steak comes out very tender and the tomato gravy is divine over mashed potatoes. I also add a little chopped green pepper in mine. Yum! Thanks Mirj, for a great Swiss Steak recipe.”

  • “Like several others I used crushed red pepper flakes since I have never seen any other kind in the store.Perhaps the green ones that Mirj was speaking of are a milder pepper flake.I only used half as much flakes (1 1/2 teaspoon)as the recipe listed…but it was still too hot and my DH complained throughout the entire meal and for a couple of hours afterward that it was too hot.Other than the heat the flavor was great.I think we would have really liked it if I had used much less hot spice.I will only use 1/4 to 1/2 teaspoon next time, and yes there will be a next time.I didn’t pound my meat and it was still a little tough after 1 hour so will cook it for the full 1 1/2 hour recommended next time.I am still giving it 5 stars since it isn’t Mirj’s fault I had to use red flakes.”

  • “This has become a weekly favorite for us. It’s easy to make, inexpensive, and easy to keep the ingredients on hand. I often add some sliced mushrooms.”

  • “We really enjoyed this recipe.I used diced tomatoes with basil, garlic and oregano instead of stewed.I also used a frozen green/red peppers and onion mix instead of an onion.Very tasty.Definitely one I will make again.Very easy recipe.”
