“i convinced my mother to make this at her last barbeque and it was a huge hit! you can even omit the pie crust and just pour the strawberry mixture over pound cake.add some whipped cream and you’ve got easy strawberry shortcake!”
“This pie is absolutely delicious. My whole family devoured it, and my 4 year old was thrilled that it was easy enough for her to help out!My only wish is that the strawberry measurement had been in pounds. It could have saved me some time. (I researched online and the answer to “how many pounds to make 3 pints” was either 1.5, 2, or 3 depending on which site I read! I ended up using 2.)”
“Great recipe. I did not add the food colouring, but did add a squeeze of fresh lemon to the water. I am not sure why, but for some reason my MIL taught me to do that with this exact recipe. Really good. Really easy.”
“This was a great simple recipe. I made a graham cracker crust for it, then followed the recipe completely except i did not add food coloring (don’t see the need). It set very well, but I would recommend my bf”s grandmother’s trick, which is to keep the berries and filling separate, put some of the filling into the shell, then arrange the berries and pour the rest of the filling over them–that is what I will be doing next time!”
“This pie was absolutely delicious, but I made the mistake of cutting the strawberries into big slices rather than leave them whole, and it came out like soup.(Maybe my strawberries were extra juicy……I don’t know.)In any case, it tasted delicious with whipped cream on top.By the way, the food coloring is totally not needed.Mine was perfectly red without it.”
“Ohhhhh, yum! This was very good!I left out the food coloring and cut the sugar to 3/4 cup.I used a graham cracker crust and it was just delish! Thanks so much for sharing!:O)”
“Oh so easy and DELISH!!!This is going to be a family favorite for years to come!!”
“This is a really good and easy recipe.I do have a few changes to make it look more like a Polly Pies pie (from California).I took out the dye… I really don’t find it necessary.I will try to split the sugar cornstarch mix… 1/2 will have the strawberries and the other 1/2 will be for the decorative strawberries. Those I will stick on top with the pointy ends sticking up, then brush with the clear coat.I hope that makes sense. Thanks for a great recipe!”
“This was great and simple, I left out the food coloring andi t was still lovely. thanks.I used an on hand graham cracker crust to avoid baking and it was still good.”
“Doubled this recipe to make 2 pies for our 4th of July cookout. The pies were delicious, however the glaze was more like a jam and you couldn’t see the whole berries thru it. It would help if the amount of strawberries in the recipe was in cups and not pints as that could vary too much. Also not sure if doubling the amount of cornstarch was too much. Will try again sometime and make a single pie to see if that works better.Thanks.”
“This pie was a hit.We skipped the food colouring because our strawberries were organic and fresh picked that morning. We spooned some filling into the bottom of the pie shell, then placed the strawberries on top all pointing up.Then we spooned the rest of the filling over top of the berries.Everything set just great.I think next time I might run the filling through the blender to even out the texture as I am a poor fork masher.”
“This pie was delicious! Our strawberry crop came in and I wanted to make a fresh strawberry pie.I chose this one and I’m so glad I did.I doubled the recipe and made two pies for a family gathering.Everybody loved it.I followed the recipe exactly and the pies turned out perfect. We will definately be having this one again! Thanks for posting this recipe.”
“Looked and tasted wonderful, but the filling did not set. When I cut and removed a slice everything oozed out.Next time I’ll add more cornstarch or some gelatin to make the filling firmer.”
“This is fabulous!I had some frozen raspberries that needed using up so subsituted these for the strawberries.Since the raspberries had lots of colour I omitted the colouring. Also only used 1/2 cup sugar, other than that followed the recipe exactally. Topped with cream out of a pressure tin and a broken up chocolate bar. Made an excellent birthday desert. Into our favourite cookbook for us!”
“This was so simple and quick to throw together. I doubled the recipe and used premade wheat organic pie shells that I precooked. In the recipe I used splenda granular instead of sugar and actually used frozen strawberries, mashed the softer ones and left the nice small pretty ones in tact.Turned out beautiful! Topped with lite cool whip.Served to guests and was enjoyed by all, except my own husband, who hates anything with splenda in it.Will make again. Thanks for sharing!”
“The only change I made to this recipe was to add 1/2 tsp of vanilla. It is an absolutely fantastic pie!Made with some of the seasons first berries, everyone who tried it, loved it!”
” i like the idea of mashing some of the strawberries in the sauce. thank you for postingdee”
“I loved this simple filling.I ended up with a beautiful tasting and looking pie.I had no whipped cream so we poured some freshly made instant vanilla pudding over the filling. It tasted good but I am a huge fan of the real whipped cream.Thank you!”
