  • Reviews

  • “A really yummy cookie. I used 1/2 white sugar and 1/2 brown sugar. I also rolled the dough into a log and chilled over night. Then sliced and baked them.”

  • “Great easy sugar cookie recipe.I did cream the butter and sugar thoroughly as suggested by a previous reviewer, and the cookies turned out beautifully. Thanks for the post!”

  • “I made Christmas Tree decoration cookies with my two year old. This recipe has been around for ages, and works great.”

  • “These were good, but not my favorite.Still looking for the recipe I lost.”

  • “Bleah.Seriously.”

  • “SO good!I’ve never made sugar cookies before and these were easy and excellent.A huge key is creaming the butter and sugar for a significant amount of time before adding any other ingredients—I let my KitchenAid do the work for a full ten minutes.I added dark chocolate M & Ms before baking….yummy!”

  • “This is nearly identical to the recipe that was always used in my family growing up, though a little smaller. It works perfectly, but remember to chill the dough between batches, and is delicious every time.”

  • “i tried this recipe and the turned out good except they taste like soft animal crackers.”

  • “Great cookies, my dough was a little crumbly but I turned it out onto plastic wrap, formed into a mound and then chilled and it came together just fine. I chilled overnight but 2 or 3 hrs probably would have worked. We just baked our initial batch and I’m about to start a second because they are going fast already! Thanks for sharing!”

  • “Mmmm Good I made with cream cheese frosting Extra good!! Grandaughter and I had lots o fun”

  • “I LOVE this recipie!!! Just some of the best sugar cookies yall’ could ever have!! Thanks for this recipie!”

  • “success every time…i just alter it by throwing in 8 oz. of heath toffee chips.they come out absolutely delicious!!”

  • “I love this recipie, it’s the same one I used to make when I was little.I did change the cooking time to about 6-7 minutes as my oven seems to run hotter. The cookies were perfect and my daughter loves them!”

  • “I had mixed results for this recipe.I’ve made them three times.First time I doubled them and they came out fantastic.Second time I don’t know what I did differently but they were horrid.Rolled out fine.Seemed a little dry.Baked them and they were rock hard even decreasing the temp.Made them a third time last night and they were crumbly.Don’t think the butter was soft enough. They baked alright.Still not as good as the first time.I’m not giving up yet.”

  • “I had a lot of trouble with this recipe. My dough was very crumbly and I had a really tough time getting it to be a pile of dough.I gave up and made little smashed balls. The only thing I changed was instead of butter I had the baking crisco type sticks.I don’t know enough about cookie baking to know if that caused the problems I had. They cooked super fast, maybe in 5 minutes. The bottoms of my cookies are dark. The end result tastes pretty good though.”

  • “These were SO yummy! The only complaint I have is on the actual directions. It says to “chill” but for how long? I left them for a while unsure on how long to chill because I’m a novice cook, so putting the “chill time” would be helpful. But the actual cookies…MORE than I expected! SO YUMMY!”

  • “I followed this recipe exactly and this dough was so crumbly. I tried putting it between layers of plastic wrap to roll, as usual and when I pressed the roller down, it “shattered” into dry balls of dough. I tried kneading it, no avail. I let it get back to room temperature but still no better. I ended up adding another half stick of butter, it was much easier to work with after that. These have a wonderful flavor, but didn’t spread out or puff up at all. All in all a good recipe, but much to dry for me.”

  • “Im so lucky to find this site especially this time of year when I do lots of baking and can’t find the recipe i need. thanks”

  • “I was SO glad to find this site and recipe–went to get my copy out and it is vanished!!Could have been a disaster for Christmas!! I’ve used this one since I started baking. It came with the Tupperware cookie cutters my mom bought. There is a trick I do with mine that I’d like to share with everyone.Try rolling in powdered sugar instead of flour. The dough doesn’t stick or get stiff from the extra flour, plus the cookies have a nice sweet crust.”

  • “I’ve never successfully made sugar cookies. I’ve tried every recipe–finally these worked! They were perfect, and even my kids could roll them out and cut them without having them just melt and ooze all over the place. Thanks!”
