Take Your Decor From Summer To Fall
Take Your Decor From Summer To Fall
The air is crisp, the days are getting shorter, and the bounty of autumn’s harvest is inviting us all to get cooking and get cozy; as we transition ourselves into colder months, doesn’t it make sense to change up our decor as well?
For a long time, I didn’t think much about decorating my home for the seasons. To me, my stuff was my stuff and it didn’t make sense to collect more of it, but over time, I learned how to make certain elements of my decor the focal point with each new time of year, and in doing so I found a deeper appreciation for the seasons.
The transition from summer to fall is a dramatic one, in just a couple of months we’ll be hiding from the cold, so there’s no time like the present to create a warm and welcoming atmosphere that evokes the beauty of fall.
Go Green: Plants are by far one of the easiest ways to change up your decor from one season to the next. Whether it’s a potted plant or a gorgeous bouquet from the farmer’s market, seasonal greenery adds a burst of color and freshness to your space. If your green thumb is lacking, try picking up some dried flowers, which are available at many markets this time of year – they never wilt and can be used in a multitude of ways.

Opt for texture: Take a cue from your closet and display a combination of seasonal fabrics — like wool and velvet –throughout your home. Try mixing patterns, colors, and texture with oversize throws and soft velvet pillows. Toss a favorite sweater over the back of an armchair or hook a hat over the corner of your couch to add an extra bit of color.

Go natural: Autumn is the perfect time to display natural materials, like woven baskets or carved wood. Pull these organic items forward and allow them to be the focal point of a dresser or tabletop. A grouping of palo santo smells amazing and contrasts beautifully against a copper vessel, or display your jewelry against a naturally carved box.
